WWE Backlash 2026 has concluded with Jacob Fatu destroying Roman Reigns after their World Heavyweight Championship match. The Original Tribal Chief defeated the Samoan Werewolf and successfully retained his gold.
Meanwhile, in the post-match, the real-life Bloodline member lost his control and bashed the Head of the Table in the squared circle. Besides this, some major developments took place in Tampa tonight, which subtly hint at another major exit from the Stamford-based promotion.
Thanks for the submission!
In this article, we will be looking at five things WWE subtly told us at Backlash this year.
#5. Asuka may be done with WWE
Asuka locked horns in a singles match against IYO Sky at Backlash 2026. The Empress of Tomorrow and the Genius of Sky delivered a banger match and once again showcased why they are the best in the squared circle.
After almost an 18-minute bout, Sky defeated the veteran female star and scored the victory. It’s crucial to note that Asuka is a heel star on Monday Night RAW.
However, in the post-match, she broke her character and embraced her former partner. Asuka and IYO shared an emotional and beautiful moment in the ring, which felt like a farewell for the former Women’s Champion.
A few hours ago, Asuka also hinted at her departure from the Sports Entertainment juggernaut in her Instagram post. After what happened at Backlash 2026, it all but confirms that Asuka may be done with WWE, at least for the time being.
If it’s true, it is indeed a big blow to the Women’s division of the Triple H creative regime.
The Empress of Tomorrow is one of the most talented and decorated stars in the female division. Despite being 44, she has defied her age every time she steps inside the squared circle. Whether fans have seen the last of her remains to be seen.
#4. Kairi Sane is not coming back anytime soon
In the lead-up to Backlash 2026, WWE released Kairi Sane as part of the mass releases last month. Her departure caused massive outrage on social media, and many hoped for Kairi Sane’s comeback at the recent Premium Live event.
The WWE Universe was anticipating that Sane might return in the Asuka vs IYO Sky match, as she was the primary part of the entire storyline. There were rumors that there was a 50% chance of her returning in Tampa. Despite much speculation, Kairi didn’t return at Backlash this year.
With this, it subtly confirms that Kairi Sane will not be coming back to the Stamford-based promotion anytime soon. Also, it implies that Triple H’s creative regime is not considering bringing back Kairi despite the online outrage.
#3. The Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins feud is far from over
WWE Backlash this year kicked off with Bron Breakker vs Seth Rollins in a singles bout. In this entire showdown, Paul Heyman was at ringside to assist the new Big Dog and cheer him against the Visionary.
After the disruption from Logan Paul and Austin Theory, Breakker emerged victorious. However, it doesn’t seem like Seth Rollins will be happy after what went down tonight. If anything, it set the stage for a rematch down the road.
WWE has barely scratched the surface of the storyline between Rollins and Breakker. It will be interesting to see how the next chapter of the feud unfolds heading into Clash in Italy 2026.
#2. Sami Zayn’s full-blown heel turn is coming
Sami Zayn got a mixed reaction from the Backlash 2026 crowd. Even during the match, Sami attempted many heel star moves and tried his best to dethrone Trick Williams as the United States Champion.
In one instance, Zayn faked a leg injury and executed a roll-up on the United States Champion. Also, when the referee got distracted in the match, Zayn attacked Trick with a kendo stick, which was not legal in this title showdown.
Sami Zayn’s actions clearly indicate that his heel turn is on the horizon. His loss added more fuel to the fire. With his growing frustration, a full-blown heel turn could be on the cards for the Canadian star.
#1. Jacob Fatu vs. Roman Reigns II at WWE Clash in Italy
Roman Reigns defeated Jacob Fatu and retained his World Heavyweight Championship, but this wasn’t enough to stop the Samoan Werewolf. Following the match, Jacob unleashed a vicious attack on the OG Bloodline.
Additionally, he pushed Adam Pearce and laid waste to WWE officials during the post-match shenanigans. He literally choked out the Original Tribal Chief and stood tall at the end of the show, posing with the World Heavyweight Title.
This development implies that the former United States Champion is not done with the Head of the Table. With the Clash in Italy 2026 less than a month away, a rematch between the two men could be inevitable.
So, these are the few things the Stamford-based promotion subtly told us from the recent Tampa Premium Live event. Tune in to RAW after Backlash tomorrow night to find out how the storyline moves forward.
