Upon reaching Act 3 in Path of Exile 2 campaign, you may come across a side quest called Ancient Beacons. The quest was originally introduced in the Fate of the Vaal League and was available starting in Act 1. However, with the league mechanics going core, you’ll start encountering Ancient Beacons only during Act 3.
If you missed the previous League and want to try out Atrizi’s DIY dungeon, then completing it is necessary. The process can take time, but in this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to complete the Ancient Beacons quest in Path of Exile 2.
How to activate Ancient Beacons in Path of Exile 2

While the process may sound complex, all you need to defeat enemies around the Ancient Beacon to progress the quest. As you can see in the image, it’s a stone slab on the ground that looks like an underground entrance. Upon reaching Act 3, they’ll start spawning randomly in your instance area.

Defeat all nearby enemies to activate the Ancient Beacon. Doing so will light up one of six crystals on the side of Beacon. From here on, you need to light up the remaining six, and the quest state will change to the same:
- Activate five additional Beacons
- Activate four additional Beacons
- Activate three additional Beacons
- Activate two additional Beacons
- Activate one additional Beacon

Each time you activate a Beacon, you will receive a random chest. However, activating the sixth Beacon will spawn a portal leading to the Vaal Ruins. Inside, you’ll find a Temple Console that lets you place rooms and design Atrizi’s Temple however you like. Once done, activate the Vaal Temple to complete the Ancient Beacons quest in Path of Exile 2.
Note that since Fate of the Vaal isn’t the featured League, you may not encounter the Ancient Beacons in every area. However, there will be enough for you to enter the Temple a few times during the Campaign. Here’s a full guide on Fate of the League gameplay mechanics.
