Wolves eyeing “unbelievable” signing who’s “available” this summer

Wolverhampton Wanderers are desperately hoping to bounce straight back to the Premier League next season and have already set their sights on signing a player who could help make that happen.

Wolves targeting £8m Premier League star

The Midlands club knew their fate for some time and whilst that came as a disappointment, it also gave them a head start in the transfer window.

Early relegation allowed them to assess who may be heading for the exit door and, of course, who may arrive to replace those players under Rob Edwards this summer.

The Old Gold are about to wave goodbye.

Already, it looks as though Joao Gomes is likely to be leaving Molineux in the coming months and replacing the Brazilian certainly won’t be an easy task.

On the flip side, though, it looks like Kieran Trippier could be arriving in what is certainly a shrewd acquisition. The 35-year-old isn’t at his peak, but this is still a player who featured in the Champions League just a few months ago. He more than has the quality to drag the club back into the top flight.

The same can be said for another Premier League target. According to Sky Sports, Wolves are now eyeing a move to sign Anthony Patterson.

Sky Sports shared “some breaking news” around the Sunderland shot-stopper and revealed that he is “available” if clubs reach an asking price between £8m and £10m this summer.

Patterson spent the second half of this season on loan at Millwall, helping them reach the playoffs before ultimately falling short. They’re now interested in making that loan move permanent, but must first hope to overcome competition from Wolves.

“Unbelievable” Patterson should replace Jose Sa

Sam Johnstone and Jose Sa have been competing to be Wolves No.1 for some time, but the truth is that neither have been consistent enough in the last 12 months – opening the door for Patterson to arrive.

The Sunderland man was unfortunate to lose his place in the Premier League and soon proved his worth at Millwall. For as much as £10m he’d prove to be an excellent addition in the Midlands.

Not only is he at the peak of his powers at 26 years old, but he’s also already got a promotion on his CV. That experience, alone, makes him invaluable in the second tier.

Patterson’s certainly received impressive praise over the years, too. Sunderland teammate Simon Moore told reporters in 2024: “Patto is right up there [with keepers I’ve worked with].

“I’ve followed him for a while even before I came here and he’s class, he pulls off some unbelievable saves. He’s underrated with the ball at his feet as well, calm and composed. His handling is excellent, he can without a shadow of a doubt play at the top.”
