Fabric Lumaray v3 Light is Back, In Between Your GPS & Mount, Playing Tunes: First Rides

It’s been a few years since we heard of new products from Fabric, but the creative tool and accessory maker is set to make a comeback we hear, and it’s all kicking off with a new Lumaray v3 front light. The core concept is still the same – stick a small light in between your cycling computer and the mount it attaches to. But this new version amps up the light output, adds a lot of flash customization options to make you more visible, and it adds an electronic bell that you can even customize with your own tunes.

While it’s not so uncommon to find a little light that sandwiches in between your GPS and your out-front mount these days, it was in fact Fabric who pioneered this simple, tidy concept with the original Lumaray back in 2018. This new 3rd-generation Lumaray essentially keeps that same form factor and installation idea, but modernizes it with a much more capable light, more customization and compatibility, plus a new electronic bell, too.

    First Impressions

We love a little gadget to play with, so I loaded up my best motivational Ludacris clip to get folks to ‘move… get out the way‘ on the bike paths. It took me a few minutes to de-sample the clip I wanted to play to meet the Lumaray’s max file size. It only has very limited internal memory, so there was a lot of lossy compression involved. But it was fun, and now I get to listen to 60+ seconds of motivation.

The only real downside to my choice of tunes is once I start my music clip, it can’t be stopped, so I have to wait until Mystikal chimes in. Also, the stock electronic bell chime was clearly a louder, more alerting sound. So, changing it to a music clip is clearly less functional.

Oh well, if I change it, it will likely only be to pick a different (less offensive?) music clip that I want to get stuck in my head.

As for the light, I really like the animated light modes, which seem to attract attention, improving visibility. There are a lot of control options with just 2 buttons, so you are going to have to keep the manual handy until you get used to all the press & hold combinations. But it is easy to work in the end.

Sandwich stack, or upper + lower mounting

As for mounting, the sandwich setup is convenient, but it does make your GPS sit about 25mm/1″ higher than before. Goodbye aero gains.

Fabric Lumaray v3 mini front light is best mounted low

It works best on low-mounted GPS mounts. Anything even with the top of your bar will make this feel like a towering stack on your cockpit. But its beauty is in its mounting flexibility.

I do especially like the matching Fabric Lumaray Dock out-front mount, though. It (like some stock Garmin mounts?) includes a Garmin-style set of tabs (not rotatable for Wahoo orientation) on its lower side, which allows you to mount the Lumaray underneath, or even a GoPro with its included adapter. Overkill for most use (and users), it is nice to have more options.

All in all, the new Lumaray v3 is a solid update to the original that makes for an easy front light add-on with cool lighting effects, and some neat new features like the customizable bell and powerbank function.

Fabric Lumaray v3 headlight – Pricing & availability

Fabric Lumaray v3 light is a sandwich-stack, customizable mini headlight with electronic bell & powerbank functions: smaller than your cycling GPS

Fabric’s newly revamped Lumaray v3 officially went on sale a couple of weeks back, so it is available now globally. Keeping pricing simple, Fabric sells the new light for $75 / £75 / €75, including mounts for Garmin & Wahoo style mounting compatibility. That’s about 2x as expensive as the less sophisticated earlier evolutions, but this one does pack in a lot more functionality.

Their own out-front mount called the Lumaray Dock sells for $/€/£20, which can mount the Lumaray v3 top or bottom, or combine with a GoPro-style attachment to mount other accessories.

Of note, we’re told that “the Lumaray V3 is just the beginning“, as Fabric is set for a return this year, “with more new products launching later in 2026 set to build on Fabric’s reputation as one of the cycling industry’s innovators“. We’re curious to see what else they have up their sleeves. I really did like their soft, squeezable bottle and always thought color-coding the tool bits, even on their mini multi-tool, was a nice touch.
