    “He’s still signed?” “Forgot about this guy” – Fans react to reports of forgotten ex-WWE star returning to AEW

    A former WWE star could be on his way back to AEW after a lengthy hiatus from the promotion. Matt Sydal, one of the most athletic stars in the industry, has been a respected veteran. He has wrestled in companies like WWE, HOG, DEFY, ROH and NJPW over the years. He joined the global sports entertainment juggernaut in 2007 and stayed with them until 2014. During his run in WWE, he wrestled as Evan Bourne.

    In 2020, the 43-year-old star became All Elite. While he wasn’t used as a top star, he entertained fans with his terrific wrestling. He mainly teamed up with Christopher Daniels over the years. He made his last appearance in the promotion in 2024 as he underwent surgery on his leg. He sustained a foot injury in 2012 during a motorbike accident. While he made a return to the ring last year on the independent scene, he is yet to come back to All Elite Wrestling.

    Recently, a report claimed that Matt Sydal was recovering from foot surgery and will make his return soon.

    While many fans were excited about the veteran’s return, several claimed they had forgotten he was even signed to the Jacksonville-based promotion. The number of fans also discussed some of the blockbuster matches the former WWE star could wrestle after his return.

    Take a look at a few fan reactions below:

    @WrestlePurists I hope he makes it back to AEW. He’s great 🤘

    @WrestlePurists Oh yea I forgot about this guy

    @WrestlePurists What a gamechanger!

    @WrestlePurists He’s still signed?

    @WrestlePurists Always said Matt Sydal is super underrated.

    @WrestlePurists Can’t recall the last time I’ve seen a bad Matt Sydal match. Respected veteran. Plays his role very well. Still has a lot of athleticism. I’m down with it.

    Matt Sydal talks about AEW

    While speaking with Sportskeeda, Matt Sydal said he is proud of being All Elite. He also talked about other major stars in All Elite Wrestling.

    “I’m really proud to be a part of AEW. But then, you know, for me, when someone like when I joined AEW, all I wanted to do is wrestle the Young Bucks, and then to get to do that with Fenix, who in my opinion, is the world’s greatest wrestler and PAC, who I’ve noticed by Dragon Gate days. I mean, the bond with my brother goes back very far. So it’s more than just a wrestling match that we do. It’s our life that we’re expressing out there,” he said.

    It will be interesting to see when the former WWE star will be back in action.
