A 23-year-old star won the biggest match of her career on AEW Collision by defeating a top veteran. Athena, one of the best female wrestlers in the industry, has been All Elite for the past few years. Unfortunately, she is rarely seen on AEW TV. She is featured mostly on ROH and is the current ROH Women’s World Champion. Not only is she the longest-reigning women’s world champion, but she is also the longest-reigning ROH champion ever.
The War Goddess entered this year’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Mina Shirakawa. She was part of the tourney last year too; unfortunately, she couldn’t take down Mercedes Moné in the semifinals. Tonight, she had the chance to book her match against the CEO in the finals, as the former TBS Champion has already punched her ticket to the Forbidden Door. Tonight on AEW Collision, Athena faced Maya World in the semifinals.
The 23-year-old star made headlines in the past week as she lost her brother in a major accident. Despite the unfortunate incident, she insisted on performing against Skye Blue in the quarterfinals. Shockingly, she defeated the Sister of Sin and advanced to the semifinals. She dedicated her victory to her brother.
Tonight, Maya and Athena locked horns. The reigning ROH Women’s World Champion dominated the promising star for the majority of the match. However, the 23-year-old star absorbed every blow. After getting frustrated, the War Goddess snapped and acted hastily. Maya World took advantage of the situation and picked up a win with a roll-up, winning the Owen Hart Foundation tournament semifinals.
Fans were left stunned after the underdog star won such a high-stakes match. She will now face Mercedes Moné in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament. It will be interesting to see who among the two finalists wins the Owen Hart Cup at AEW Forbidden Door.
