First-round matches will conclude on Day 2 (Tuesday, June 23) of the Eastbourne Open 2026. Defending champion Maya Joint was sent packing on Monday, thus guaranteeing a new champion this time.
Jelena Ostapenko, McCartney Kessler, and Ajla Tomljanovic were among the notable winners on the first day of the tournament. As more players aim to join them in the second round, here’s a look at the predictions for all the matches set for Day 2 of the Eastbourne Open:
Thanks for the submission!
#1. Jasmine Paolini vs Tatjana Maria
Paolini has compiled a 12-11 record this season. This will be her first match of the grass swing. Maria has put together a 10-18 record this year. She kicked off her time on grass at the Queen’s Club Championships. Her title defense concluded in the second round. She made the quarterfinals of the Nottingham Open last week.
Paolini leads their rivalry 2-1 at the WTA level. She won their last two matches in straight sets. However, Maria is an extremely competent player on grass. The Italian, who’s coming back from an injury, could find it tough to handle her older rival’s crafty game on grass without any prior match play on the surface this year.
Winner: Tatjana Maria
#2. Zeynep Sonmez vs Harriet Dart

Sonmez made the quarterfinals of the Libema Open in her first tournament of the grass swing. She upset Leylah Fernandez en route to the second round of last week’s Nottingham Open as a qualifier. She came through the qualifiers to seal her spot in the main draw of the Eastbourne Open.
Dart began her grass season with a first-round exit from the Birmingham Open. She made the second round of the Queen’s Club Championships and went out in the first round of the Nottingham Open. This will be the first meeting between them. Dart’s 2-7 record against top 100 player since the start of 2025 makes her the underdog in this contest.
Winner: Zeynep Sonmez
#3. Barbora Krejcikova vs Kimberly Birrell
Krejcikova’s grass swing started on a mixed note. While she made the final of the Libema Open, she couldn’t compete for the title due to an illness. Birrell, meanwhile, is yet to win a main draw match on grass this year. She came through to the qualifiers of the Eastbourne Open to book her place in the main draw.
This will be the first encounter between them at the WTA level. Birrell recently upset Jessica Pegula in the first round of the French Open. While she has the potential to script another upset, a fully-fit Krejcikova is unlikely to succumb to Birrell’s tricks.
Winner: Barbora Krejcikova
#4. Laura Siegemund vs Sara Bejlek

Siegemund lost to Amanda Anisimova in the second round of the Queen’s Club Championships. With quarterfinal points to defend at Wimbledon, this week is quite important for her. Bejlek hasn’t tasted success on grass this season. She made back-to-back first-round exits from the Libema Open and the Nottingham Open.
Siegemund leads their rivlary 1-0. She won their previous meeting at this year’s Italian Open in straight sets. Bejlek, who has lost six of her last seven matches, could go down to the German once again based on her recent form.
Winner: Laura Siegemund
#5. Madison Keys vs Talia Gibson
Winner: Madison Keys
#6. Anna Bondar vs Panna Udvardy
Winner: Anna Bondar
#7. Caty McNally vs Janice Tjen
Winner: Caty McNally
#8. Yuliia Starodubtseva vs Anastasia Zakharova
Winner: Yuliia Starodubtseva
#9. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro vs Alicia Dudeney
Winner: Jessica Bouzas Maneiro
