The Houston Rockets hoped that adding a proven veteran like Kevin Durant would uplift their young core.
Instead, they won the same number of games as the previous season (52), and Durant wasn’t even on the court for most of their disappointing first-round exit.
Add yet another burner account scandal to the mix, and Durant might not be the most popular guy in the Rockets’ locker room right now.
Considering that, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley believes he might be the next superstar to be on the trade block — again.
Kevin Durant could be on the move again
“Between the injuries to Fred VanVleet and Steven Adams, the runway clearing for Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard and the infamous burner saga, a whole lot happened in Houston,” Buckley wrote.
Durant went from being one of the most active NBA figures on social media to barely using his account — at least his main one.
There were reports of discontent within the organization regarding his use of social media, and the fact that he stopped using it almost right after the burner account scandal broke only raised more suspicion.
Things didn’t go well in Durant’s first season in Houston, and it wouldn’t be the first time the four-time scoring champion has burned bridges.
“Maybe Durant is confident in what this club has, but his first season as a part of it did not seem remotely fun,” Buckley added. “And it would hardly be out of his norm to tire of his hoops home and seek out a fresh start elsewhere.”
Multiple teams would still be interested in the future Hall of Famer, and the Detroit Pistons reportedly already tried to trade for him.
Teams might wait to see the end of the LeBron James saga first before making a move, but given how Durant has operated and how his career has turned out in the past decade or so, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him switch sides again this offseason.
