Josh Allen has caused much fan blowback with where he has placed in ESPN’s latest quarterback rankings.
On Monday, the face of the Buffalo Bills edged out the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes to claim the no. 1 spot. An anonymous general manager said of him:
Thanks for the submission!
“He’s the most singularly unstoppable player at the position when you get his A-game. And he has cut down on the turnovers the past two seasons.”

Meanwhile, a coordinator said:

“You live with him and die with him. You can’t get mad at him because he won a lot of games for you with a similar style, and he was so good. … Look who he was throwing to. His wideouts weren’t great. But he made it work and brought out their best. He elevates the people around him, clearly.”
Not all fans were happy with it, however:
Insider ponders Josh Allen-Stefon Diggs reunion
It has been said on a good number of occasions that Josh Allen performs best with a WR1. Stefon Diggs was that man for him from 2020 to 2023, but the relationship between them soured as the Bills’ offensive strategy started shifting toward running back James Cook.
The two parted ways in 2024, with both men having reached at least the AFC Championship Game since then. Allen became an MVP, while Diggs hit 1,000 receiving yards for a seventh time.
Beyond those successes, however, Allen still thinks highly of his former teammate. Diggs has somewhat tempered his expectations, calling himself the best WR2, not WR1, in a recent YouTube video. Thus, Yardbarker’s Chris Pownall believes a reunion is not implausible:
“Buffalo has survived without a true No. 1 receiver. … That doesn’t mean the roster couldn’t use another proven playmaker. There were stretches last season when Buffalo desperately needed a player who was capable of winning one-on-one against tight coverage on third down. Someone like Diggs.”
He continues:
“If the Bills believe Diggs can still help them finally reach the Super Bowl, and if Diggs is willing to return with different expectations than he had before, a second chapter suddenly becomes a lot easier to imagine than the first ending ever suggested.”
The Bills begin their 2026 campaign at the Houston Texans on September 13. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
