Lamine Yamal and one other key Spain star miss group training ahead of FIFA World Cup final against Argentina

Spain star Lamine Yamal had an injury scare ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Argentina on Sunday.

The 18-year-old reportedly trained separately from the squad today as him and semi-final hero Pedro Porro both suffered minor discomforts.

Luis de la Fuente’s side are taking no risks ahead of the showpiece clash this weekend as both players are crucial to their fortunes.

Porro scored the second goal in Spain’s 2-0 win over France on Tuesday while Yamal also had the ball in the back of the net, but it was ruled out for offside.

The Barcelona starlet apparently sustained a minor knock during the clash and was seen limping after their victory over France.

Visuals that have emerged from his training today shows Yamal with a bandage on his left thigh as the forward trained individually.

But initial assessments show that it’s a minor issue and there’s optimism surrounding his availability for Sunday’s title showdown with Argentina.

Yamal has a documented history of pubalgia, a groin pain, that has required careful management. In previous instances, the issue has demanded special medical treatments and some recovery periods too.

Porro, too, had reportedly suffered a strain on the hamstring during their last-four win but his case isn’t serious either.

The Spanish Football Federation revealed that both players working separately from the rest of the group was a precautionary measure as part of workload management.

Fuente, who is aiming for a third trophy with Spain since taking charge in 2022, otherwise has a clean bill of health with all his key first-team players available for selection.

Spain play Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday, 19 July at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

Lamine Yamal, Spain eye FIFA World Cup glory

For just the second time in their history, Spain are into the FIFA World Cup final. And no one can dispute their place either, for the European champions have led the meanest defense of any side at the tournament while looking clinical with their chances upfront too.

La Roja are now hoping to follow into the footsteps of the 2010 squad that struck gold in South Africa and lift their second World Cup trophy. However, Lamine Yamal and co. face a stern test against the reigning champions Argentina, led by the evergreen star Lionel Messi.

The Albiceleste are looking to create history of their own by becoming just the third team ever to win back-to-back FIFA World Cup trophies after Italy (1934 and 1938) and Brazil (1958 and 1962).
