The Portland Thorns announced Thursday that the club has signed midfielder Jessie Fleming to a contract extension through 2028. Her contract was set to expire at the end of this season, in which she has played every possible minute for the third-place Thorns.

“Jessie has been instrumental to everything we’ve built on and off the field,” Thorns President and General Manager of Soccer Operations Jeff Agoos said in a statement. He added, “she’ll continue to be a cornerstone of our roster.”

Fleming joins ten other Thorns players whose contracts with the club last until 2028 or later, including Reyna Reyes, Olivia Moultrie, and Morgan Weaver. On June 30, the Thorns had announced they were pursuing contract extensions for Sophia Wilson and Pietra Tordin, as well as Fleming.

Fleming, 28, has taken on a vital role for Portland this year as the team works to make up for Sam Coffey’s January transfer to Manchester City.

Fleming arrived to Portland in 2024 after spending four seasons at Chelsea. At Portland, she has made 65 appearances, including 55 starts.

Fleming is the captain of the Canadian women’s national team, a role she took over when former Thorns teammate Christine Sinclair retired from international soccer. The London, Ontario native has logged 157 caps, 20 goals, and 15 assists for Canada. She has appeared in three World Cups and three Olympics, including Canada’s gold medal run in 2021.
