Shubman Gill is the latest voice to break his silence amid the students’ protest in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. On July 23, the captain of the India National Cricket Team for the Test and ODI formats shared a meaningful Instagram story.
Through the Instagram story, Shubman Gill mentions that through compassion and mutual respect, India could move forward for a better future.
Shubman Gill expresses his thoughts on the ongoing students’ protest in Delhi.
In the Instagram story, the Indian cricket team captain expresses that as a young Indian, he believes his generation deserves every opportunity to learn, dream, and take forward steps for a better future. He further mentions that education has the power to shape India’s future.
“As a young Indian, I believe our generation deserves every opportunity to learn, dream, and shape the future we all aspire to. I have immense respect for every young person who believes in making their voice heard peacefully. Education has the power to shape our nation’s future. I hope we move forward with compassion, mutual respect, and keep the best interests of every student at heart. For India’s future,” Shubman Gill’s Instagram story reads.

Sachin Tendulkar and a few other former Team India cricketers also broke the silence over the students’ protest.
Shubman Gill is not only the Indian cricketer who speaks out on the nationwide burning issue, but also legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, and Shikhar Dhawan were among the notable names from Indian cricket who raised their voices.
Sachin Tendulkar took to his ‘X’ account and stated that the outburst of the students is understandable as they are not rewarded for all the hard work they have put in.
“As adults in society, we have the responsibility of shaping culture. A society which prioritises outcomes over effort will seek shortcuts over meritocracy. Today, when students feel disappointed that their hard work hasn’t been rewarded, it is understandable,” he stated on his social media post.
Former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan also expressed his concerns amid the ongoing protest.
Like Sachin Tendulkar, Irfan Pathan also reflected that behind every student’s years of hard work, sacrifices made by their family members are also involved. Incidents like paper leaks should not be allowed to put their future in jeopardy.
“Every student puts in years of hard work for a better future and their families make sacrifices along the way too. No paper leak should ever be allowed to take that hope,” Irfan Pathan said.
Students’ protest in Delhi in brief
The students’ protest began on July 20, led by the Cockroach Janta Party. The protest gradually gained momentum, and it became a nationwide topic. As per media reports, to enforce law and order, on several occasions, police were forced to do lathi charges.
Environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk is among the individuals who openly staged a protest, demanding the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan because of the NEET paper leak.
