A major Australian transfer has been confirmed, Manchester City’s record signing has wasted no time stirring up the rivalry with United, and Chelsea have made an eye-catching move for a teenage sensation.

AUSTRALIAN MIDFIELDER SIGNS LONG-TERM GERMAN DEAL
Socceroos midfielder Paul Okon-Engstler has officially completed a blockbuster move to German club 1. FC Köln, signing a long-term deal through to 2030 after departing Sydney FC.
The 21-year-old has completed a transfer worth approximately €1 million (AUD$1.6 million), according to reports, following a breakout A-League campaign in which he made 27 appearances for Sydney FC last season.

Fresh off helping Australia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he started three matches, Okon-Engstler continues to establish himself on the international stage. The midfielder is also the son of Socceroos assistant coach Paul Okon.
Speaking after the announcement, Okon-Engstler said he was excited to begin the next chapter of his career.
“FC is a club with a huge history, with incredible fans and stadium. I can’t wait to play there and finally get on the pitch with the team. For me, it’s exactly the right step in my career.”
Köln managing director Thomas Kessler believes the Australian has all the attributes to become a key player for the club.
“We’re very pleased that Paul has decided to join 1. FC Köln,” Kessler said in a club statement. “He’s a young player with great potential who has developed very positively in recent years.
“With his strong performances for Sydney FC, he earned a spot in the Australian national team and showed at the World Cup the role he can play. Paul brings outstanding footballing qualities, high intensity and a willingness to improve every day. That attitude fits perfectly with our philosophy.
“We’re convinced he’ll strengthen our central midfield and provide our squad with additional quality. At the same time, we want to support his development and take the next step together.”
In a statement released by Sydney FC, Okon-Engstler thanked the club for the role it played in launching his professional career.
“Sydney FC has been incredible for my development over the past year and I can’t thank everyone enough for the belief they’ve shown in me.”
“The coaches, my teammates and all of the staff have helped me grow so much as both a player and a person. I’ll always be grateful for the opportunity they gave me to begin my professional career.
“It’s always been a dream to play in one of the top five leagues in the world and I’m really excited for this next challenge. I’ll always look back fondly on my time in Sky Blue and wish everyone at the club every success.”
Sydney FC head coach Patrick Kisnorbo said the move was a deserved reward for the midfielder’s outstanding first professional season.
“Paul has produced an exceptional first season in professional football and thoroughly deserves this opportunity.”
“He has developed a mentality and work ethic that drives him to improve every day, and that has been evident in his performances for both club and country.
“We’d like to thank Paul for everything he has given Sydney FC, congratulate him on this move and wish him every success at 1. FC Köln.”
The move marks the next major milestone in Okon-Engstler’s career as he becomes the latest Australian to test himself in one of Europe’s top footballing nations.
$189m MIDFIELDER READY FOR MANCHESTER DERBY
Elliot Anderson declared Manchester City the “Kings of Manchester” after completing his reported £116 million (AUD$189 million) move from Nottingham Forest.
City confirmed Thursday the England midfielder had signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium with the option of a further 12 months.
The deal was agreed earlier this month but finalised this week following the player’s return from the World Cup.
Anderson said he was “over the moon” to be signing for “one of the biggest clubs in the world”, with the 23-year-old adding: “I can’t wait to play for this club. It’s a club built to win trophies and compete at the very top of the game. That is exciting for any footballer.
“I think they’re winners, they’re relentless, and that’s the sort of team I want to be a part of. Over the last 10, 12 years, they’ve dominated, so that’s why I wanted to join.” Anderson said he was already looking forward to appearing in the Manchester derby, with City facing arch rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 13.
“It’s one of the biggest derbies in the world and for as long as I’ve known Manchester, City have been the Kings of Manchester. It’ll be a great fixture and I can’t wait to be involved in something like that.” Anderson came through the youth ranks at Newcastle, making 55 first-team appearances for his boyhood club, before signing for Forest in a £35 million move two years ago and played 92 times for the Midlands side.
He earned his first England call-up last season and soon established himself as a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s side that finished in third place at the World Cup “I’m only 23, so I’ve got plenty of time to get to my best levels,” said Anderson. “I’m definitely not there yet and there’s more to come from me.

“I think I bring a bit of everything. I bring quality, I bring physicality, energy. I’d like to think I’d get the fans excited, get them off their feet and bring energy to the team.” Anderson will link up with new manager Enzo Maresca’s squad for pre-season training next month, with City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, saying: “Elliot is one of the outstanding young midfield talents in world football. We feel he can become a complete midfielder.” Anderson’s move came just days after fellow England midfielder Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for a reported £117 million, a fee that smashed the transfer record for a British player.
CHELSEA LOCK IN TEEN SENSATION
Chelsea have secured one of world football’s brightest teenage prospects, agreeing a deal to sign 15-year-old U.S. youth international Benji Flowers from FC Dallas when he turns 18.
Under FIFA regulations governing the international transfer of minors, Flowers will remain with FC Dallas after signing his first professional contract before making the move to Stamford Bridge upon his 18th birthday.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea will pay an initial £2.25 million (AUD$3.6 million) for the highly rated winger, with the deal potentially rising to £7.5 million through performance-related bonuses.
Flowers joined the FC Dallas Academy at the age of 10 and has since become the youngest player in the club’s history to sign a professional contract, doing so at just 15 years old, while also becoming its 49th Homegrown player.
FC Dallas chief soccer officer André Zanotta believes the teenager has earned every opportunity.
“Benji is a special talent, and today is an important milestone for both him and our club,” Zanotta said.
“He has come through the FC Dallas Academy and has earned this opportunity through his work ethic, commitment and the support of his family.
“Every step of his development has come because he has embraced the process and continued to challenge himself every day.

“We believe he has a very bright future, but this is only the beginning of his journey as a professional. We’re excited to continue helping him develop here at FC Dallas before the next chapter of his career.”
Flowers’ rapid rise has already attracted international attention. Last month he was named in the MLS NEXT All-Star Game after making his North Texas SC debut aged just 14 years and 11 months, becoming the second-youngest player in the club’s history.
At international level, the exciting winger has represented the United States Under-15 side, scoring two goals in his first three appearances.
