    Disheartening Update On Top Star’s AEW In-ring Absence

    Following his imminent return to the ring, there has been an update on a popular AEW star. The individual has been on a long hiatus from the promotion, and a major veteran has speculated on the reason for this.

    Eddie Kingston missed time for a year and a half due to a broken leg. He made his return at All Out last year and was featured on TV for several months. He has not competed for the company since February after being featured on a Parking Lot Fight on Collision. He has been more active on ROH since. His only cameo came at AEW Double or Nothing, which was in his hometown.

    During a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez spoke about Kingston’s absence. Alvarez wondered about this, as he, like other fans, wanted to see him in AEW. Meltzer claimed that as it stood, he would not have a place in the promotion’s current plans. He speculated that part of the reason was how he was not as mobile after coming back from his injury.

    “Because they have cards. And they focus on the guys on the cards, and he’s not on the cards. Is he going to make the cards better? You want to add another match to these pay-per-views?… Have you seen Eddie Kingston wrestle since he came back? He’s not, as you know; he came back from a broken leg, he’s not mobile. Well, he’ll work hard, people will get behind him and everything, but there’s a reason.” [1:00-1:37]

    Eddie Kingston recently commented on his AEW absence

    The Mad King was recently featured last month during a wXw documentary, and he briefly spoke about his absence from AEW. While he wasn’t exactly sure why he wasn’t on TV, he knew it was the nature of the business.

    But he knew that every time he was out there, he still had that level of passion he always had, and he was glad to see that some of the younger talent could match this.

    “I don’t know what to say, bro. Like I said to the people, business is business. Sometimes you’re on and sometimes you’re not. I tell people sometimes you’re the hammer and sometimes you’re the nail. I get in my own head and I start doubting myself a lot, but then when I go out there and I hear the people chanting my name and being into the match. I’m in there with such a young kid that I can see his fire in his eyes. I can feel it. That’s a feeling that I love seeing that from younger guys cause I know there’s still fire in my heart and my eyes. I love to see it matched.” he said. [H/T: Fightful]

    Eddie Kingston is set to return to AEW to be part of the Continental Cup and will be taking on Jake Doyle in the opening round. It remains to be seen whether his tournament run will come to an abrupt end at the hands of the Don Callis Family member.
