Manchester United and Chelsea were among the sides to have indicated their interest in Brazil’s FIFA World Cup debutant Igor Thiago this summer, as per reports. The Brazil international enjoyed a fine breakout season in England, shining in the colours of Brentford during the 2025-26 season.
According to TEAMTalk (via CaughtOffside), Chelsea and Manchester United approached Brentford for information on a possible deal for Thiago. Their inquiries were swiftly knocked back, as the Bees were unwilling to let go of the 25-year-old striker this summer.
Thanks for the submission!
Igor Thiago was impressive for Brentford as they exceeded expectations despite losing Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard, and manager Thomas Frank. The Brazilian striker scored 25 goals across 40 appearances for the Bees, finishing only behind Erling Haaland for goals in the Premier League.
Chelsea were looking to bring in a new striker this summer and approached Brentford to discuss Thiago with them. They ultimately moved for another striker with Premier League experience, bringing in Danny Welbeck to strengthen their attack.
Manchester United are in the market for a striker, with Joshua Zirkzee in talks over a move to Juventus this summer. Benjamin Sesko will be the only senior striker on their books if they fail to bring in another, even if both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha played there occasionally last season.
Igor Thiago’s form for Brentford earned him international recognition with Brazil for the first time in his career. He played once for the Seleçao at the FIFA World Cup as they were eliminated at the quarter-final stage.
Manchester United weighing up move for Chelsea flop this summer: Reports
Manchester United are considering a move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap this summer, as per reports. The Red Devils are looking to sign a striker to provide adequate competition and cover for Benjamin Sesko, who is set for his second season at Old Trafford.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Red Devils are interested in Delap, with their interest dating back to last summer. They had been in the race to sign the England U-21 international from Ipswich Town but were ultimately beaten to his signature by the Blues.
Liam Delap has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, with the arrival of Emanuel Emegha and Danny Welbeck. The Blues are looking for £35-40 million to sanction a transfer away from the club for the striker, with Everton also reportedly interested in him.
