    Doing a Little—and a Lot—at the DoLittle Marathon – Chicago Athlete Magazine

Silver Circle Sporting Events brings a fast, flexible, runner-first race day to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin

Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, woke up today with the kind of late-summer race-day energy runners know well: pinned bibs, nervous laughter, early arrivals at Roosevelt Park, and the promise of a course built for rhythm. The DoLittle Marathon, hosted by Silver Circle Sports Events, delivered exactly what its name suggests—with a wink. Runners could do a little, do a lot, or do the whole 26.2, all on a flat, fast course designed to welcome everyone from first-time 5K participants to marathoners chasing a fall benchmark.

The DoLittle lineup was refreshingly broad. Participants could take on the marathon, an early-start marathon option, the half marathon, 10K, or 5K, while walkers and ruckers had their own ways to be part of the morning with 5K and 10K walk options and ruck divisions that extended up to the half marathon. For runners who wanted structure without committing to a traditional finish line distance, the Run Any Distance option added even more flexibility.

That menu of choices is part of what made the event feel approachable. Not every runner arrives with the same goal. Some came to test fitness before an October marathon, some used the morning as a supported long run, some lined up for a fast 5K or 10K, and others simply wanted the experience of a well-produced community race without the pressure of a major-city event.

The course used the Lake Country Trail, giving runners a smooth, scenic, and notably flat route through one of southeastern Wisconsin’s most runner-friendly corridors. The out-and-back format helped create a steady, predictable rhythm—ideal for pacing, fueling, and settling into the work of the day. For spectators, the layout made it easier to see athletes more than once without chasing them across town.

For marathoners and half marathoners, the course offered the kind of simplicity that can be a gift: few distractions, plenty of room to lock into pace, and enough repetition to measure effort honestly. For shorter-distance runners, the same course characteristics translated into a chance to run confidently and maybe even surprise themselves.

Silver Circle Sports Events has carved out an important place for Midwest runners by offering frequent, approachable races that do not require a destination-race budget or an elite-runner mindset. The company produces and supports running, walking, trail, ruck, triathlon, and community events throughout southeastern Wisconsin, giving athletes repeated chances to race, train, volunteer, spectate, and stay connected to the regional endurance community.

That matters. In a sport where costs can add up quickly—shoes, travel, lodging, gear, coaching, nutrition—affordable local racing keeps the start line accessible. Silver Circle’s calendar also reflects the way real runners train: sometimes they need a 5K tune-up, sometimes a 10K effort, sometimes a supported long run, sometimes a half marathon, and sometimes a full marathon without the crush of a mega-event. The DoLittle Marathon captured that philosophy in one morning.

Behind that race-day operation is owner Sean Osborne, who embraces the title “Chief Cone Counter” with the kind of humor that fits the Silver Circle brand. It is a lighthearted nickname, but it also says something true about race directing: the experience runners see on race morning depends on countless unglamorous details handled well—cones, timing mats, aid stations, signage, volunteers, parking plans, announcements, and the thousand small decisions that make an event feel smooth.

At DoLittle, that attention to detail showed in the event’s flexibility and practicality. Runners had options. Spectators had access. The course made sense. The atmosphere felt welcoming rather than intimidating. In the best way, the event did not try to be bigger than it needed to be; it tried to be useful, fun, and well-run.

What made the DoLittle Marathon memorable was not just the flat course or the clever name. It was the sense that the race understood its audience. Midwest runners are practical, resilient, and often juggling training around work, family, weather, and life. They appreciate a good course, fair pricing, clear operations, and a race calendar that lets them keep showing up.

The DoLittle Marathon gave them all of that. Whether today’s finishers ran 3.1 miles, 6.2, 13.1, 26.2, or something uniquely their own, they were part of an event that celebrated movement at every distance. And in a region full of runners looking for the next honest, affordable, well-organized start line, Silver Circle Sports Events continues to give them plenty of good reasons to lace up again.
