Dan Campbell addresses Lions blockbuster trade speculation after massive cap move

The Detroit Lions suddenly have some money to play with, and naturally, that has people wondering what general manager Brad Holmes might be cooking up.

Head coach Dan Campbell isn’t feeding that speculation. He isn’t completely killing it, either.

Detroit created additional cap space after restructuring contracts, giving the Lions considerably more flexibility as the season gets underway. Campbell was asked Monday if that could be a precursor to a significant addition.

Dan Campbell doesn’t see a big Lions move coming right now

“I don’t see that,” Campbell said. “I would say this though. It gives us options, whether that be our own guys or if you know, it just gives us flexibility here before the season starts because there’s a lot that can happen.”

The beginning of that answer isn’t exactly subtle. If anyone was hoping Campbell would wink at the idea of Holmes having a blockbuster sitting on his desk, he didn’t.

But then came the rest of it.

    “It gives us options.”

That’s really the point of Detroit creating the room in the first place. The Lions don’t have to spend it immediately, and there is no prize for blowing through cap space simply because it’s available.

    They can wait.
