On Wednesday, September 16, India’s 15-member squad for the five-game T20I series against West Indies was announced. The series will commence on October 6 in Lucknow, with the next two games scheduled for October 9 and 11 in Ranchi and Indore, respectively. The last two games will be played on October 14 in Hyderabad and October 17 in Bengaluru.
Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the side, with major changes coming in the bowling lineup. Ace seamer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested, while Prince Yadav and Mayank Yadav have been called up to team up with Arshdeep Singh. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi are the two frontline spinners in the team.
As the Men in Blue prepare to face the Men in Maroon, here we look at five players in India’s squad for the 2026 series who were part of the 2019 home assignment as well.
#1 Shreyas Iyer
Current India T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer was also part of the three-game 2019 series against West Indies, which the hosts won 2-1. Iyer featured in all three games during the series but failed to make an impact, managing just 14 runs at an average of 7.00 and a strike rate of 82.35.
Overall, Shreyas has played 63 T20Is for India, eight of which have come against West Indies. He has managed 137 runs in those games at an average of 19.57 and a strike rate of 119.13, hitting one fifty, with a best of 64.
#2 Shivam Dube
Mumbai cricketer Shivam Dube featured in all three matches and scored 54 runs in two innings at an average of 54.00 and a strike rate of 180.00. He hit one fifty, with his best of 54 off 30 balls coming in the second game at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. He also bowled six overs across three games but remained wicketless.
Dube has played four T20Is against West Indies, scoring 62 runs at an average of 62.00 and a strike rate of 182.35. However, he is yet to pick up a wicket against them.
#3 Sanju Samson
Initially not named in the India squad, Sanju Samson replaced Shikhar Dhawan in the side for the 2019 T20Is against West Indies after the latter suffered a left knee injury. However, Samson did not feature in a single game and warmed the bench.
The 31-year-old has appeared in eight T20Is against the two-time World Champions, making 174 runs in six innings at an average of 43.50 and a strike rate of 155.35. He has hit one fifty, with his best being an unbeaten 97.
#4 Washington Sundar
India all-rounder Washington Sundar played in all three games but batted in only one innings, where he was dismissed for a golden duck. The off-spinner claimed two wickets in three innings at an average of 32.50 and a strike rate of 24.00, with an economy rate of 8.12.
In total, he has played seven T20Is against West Indies, making eight runs in two innings and claiming five wickets at an average of 30.20 and a strike rate of 24.00, with an economy rate of 7.55.
#5 Kuldeep Yadav
Another player selected for the 2026 series who also featured in the 2019 assignment is left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. He played only one game, which came in the series decider in Mumbai, where he took 2/45 in four overs.
The 31-year-old has 17 wickets to his credit in nine T20Is against West Indies at an average of 13.41 and a strike rate of 12.70, with an economy rate of 6.33. His best figures against them are 3/12.
