On Sunday, he was out-dueled by Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, which is a statement that should never be typed in the year 2026.
Mayfield finished 21-of-34 for 182 yards (5.4 yards per attempt), one touchdown and one interception. Watson, meanwhile, was 24-of-30 for 238 yards (7.9 yards per attempt) and two touchdowns.
During the first quarter, Mayfield remained careless with the football on a poor pass intercepted by cornerback Myles Harden, giving the veteran quarterback four turnovers through two games.
