India’s middle-order batter Rinku Singh has made a big statement amid the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 buzz. Rinku Singh wants senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to be part of the tournament and hopes they can help India finally lift the World Cup trophy after more than two decades.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star also opened up about his own career ambitions. Known mainly for his finishing skills in T20 cricket, Rinku wants to change the image of being only a white-ball player and dreams of representing India in Test cricket. Amid this, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma get strong 2027 World Cup backing before West Indies ODIs.
Rinku Singh wants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play in ICC ODI World Cup 2027
Rinku Singh believes that the entire nation wants to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli playing in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027. The left-handed batter feels the former Indian captains’ experience could make the 2027 World Cup campaign even more memorable.
The ICC ODI World Cup 2027 could be the last ICC tournament for both Kohli and Rohit, and Rinku hopes they remain part of India’s plans. India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011, and Rinku wants Rohit and Kohli to be part of the team that brings the trophy back.
It would be huge if they can win it for India: Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh was quoted as saying by JioStar, “They are legends, both Virat Bhaiya and Rohit Bhaiya. Not just me, but the entire nation hopes that they play in the World Cup and are part of the team that goes on to win it. It would be a huge moment for the whole country, as who knows, it could be their last World Cup.”
The Indian batter continued, “So, it would be huge if they can win it for India. It would be huge for them as well, because we haven’t won the World Cup in a long time. We last won it in 2011. So, we hope both of them are with the team and that they lift that trophy.”
Rinku Singh sends big message to selectors, wants Test cricket chance
Rinku Singh has so far played two ODIs and 48 T20Is for India. He was also part of India’s successful 2026 T20 World Cup campaign on home soil earlier this year. However, after the Zimbabwe tour in July, Rinku was left out of India’s squads. Amid this, Ravichandran Ashwin reveals retirement conversation with Ajit Agarkar.
He has built a strong reputation as a reliable finisher in T20 cricket, but he does not want to be seen only as a T20 specialist. Rinku wants the Indian selectors and fans to see him as a player capable of performing across all three formats while mentioning his domestic stats.
Rinku signed off by saying, “There’s a bit of that perception that I’m just a one-format player. But you can look at my average in domestic cricket, whether it’s in one-dayers or four-day matches. I have a dream of playing Test cricket for India as well. So, people shouldn’t view me as a single-format player. I can play all three formats, and I do play all three formats in domestic cricket. But for India, I play only one format at the moment.”
