Ajinkya Rahane said, “I think for me, about Rohit is his calmness. When he is batting, the calmness, the attitude you spoke about is always there. But going into the World Cup, we saw people talking about Rohit Sharma, about his retirement, about his career. But I felt that it was not necessary. It was not necessary to talk about all this.”

Apart from that, Rahane also spoke about the retirement of Rohit, as he feels that the latter has been performing consistently over the years, and he also wants his former Mumbai teammate to play in the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia and also win the major tournament.
“I am really looking forward to seeing Rohit Sharma, from here on for 12 months, doing so well, personally and also for the team, and lifting that World Cup. But when he is at the crease, his calmness for me is really important.”
Rohit Sharma’s recent form
Rohit has been in good form in recent times as he scored a hundred in his last ODI innings against England at Lord’s. He would like to continue his good form in the series against West Indies when he comes out to bat in the second innings.
The former India captain, post the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, has batted in 15 innings, scoring 727 runs with an average of 51.92, with a good strike rate of 96.93 and a high score of 138, which came in his last innings off 110 deliveries. This showcases his current form and consistency in the 50-over format.
West Indies off to a good start
In the India vs West Indies 1st ODI, Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first, and the Windies openers John Campbell and Justin Greaves stitched a good 135-run partnership for the first wicket.
