“Kick him out of the league” “Fine & suspend”: NFL fans outraged over referee cursing Trey McBride on live camera

Trey McBride had a rather poor performance on Sunday against the New York Giants, generating only 31 yards on seven receptions in a 24-36 loss. However, those numbers were the least of his worries that afternoon.

With under five minutes left in the game, the tight end got tangled up with Andru Phillips on a target. He then approached line judge Jeff Seeman seeking a pass interference call, but the two instead got into a heated argument that ended with Seeman purportedly saying the F-word to him twice.

McBride, meanwhile, responded by gleefully pointing toward the camera:

Condemnation of Seeman’s antics was rife:

“@NFLOfficiating what an embarrassing display, you should kick him out of the league,” one implored.

“Fine and suspend this ref immediately,” another demanded.

“These officials are out of control,” another rued.

“These refs gotta be stopped. I think that’s one thing every fan can agree on,” one pleaded.

“Ok the league needs to get a handle on these refs. This is as unprofessional as it gets,” one concurred.

“The zebras need to go. They have gotten too big for their britches,” another sighed.

The Cardinals ultimately punted on that drive, but not before taking a penalty for delay of game. The Giants would punish it with a field goal, then Deonte Banks ended the game by intercepting Jacoby Brissett and returning it 98 yards for a touchdown.

Trey McBride’s episode with Jeff Seeman not the only referee incident in Week 4 of 2026 season

As it turned out, Trey McBride was not alone in feeling the referees’ wrath on Sunday.

During the second quarter of the New England Patriots’ 29-26 win against the Buffalo Bills, head coach Mike Vrabel used the F-word when protesting a holding call on cornerback Marcus Jones, which netted the team a five-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. During his post-game press conference, he said:

“It was nothing derogatory. You’d have to ask him, I think he was a little sensitive. Once I get the word from upstairs that it wasn’t what we felt like was a good call, which I’m going to trust [Patriots VP of football operations and strategy John Streicher] with my life.”

Later that day, Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson was shoved into Adrian Hill by Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II. This prompted a verbal lashout from the referee.
