Tottenham scouts urging Spurs to sign ‘extraordinary’ Roma talent with ‘incredible pace’

Tottenham are already looking towards the January transfer window after a difficult start to the season under Roberto De Zerbi.

Much of the speculation around Spurs this week has centred on their search for another striker.

Some reports suggest that the club have stepped up their work on Espanyol forward Roberto Fernandez, who is said to have emerged as one of De Zerbi’s leading targets.

Vangelis Pavlidis has also remained firmly in the conversation, with Tottenham reportedly watching the Benfica striker extensively, although his £85 million release clause would make any deal complicated midway through the season.

Spurs have also opened contract talks with Luca Williams-Barnett amid reported interest from Chelsea, Man United, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

However, Tottenham’s scouts are not only concentrating on established forwards or protecting talent already in north London.

Tottenham scouts urge club to consider signing Roma prospect Emanuele Lulli

A new report from TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey claims Spurs have been alerted to Roma teenager Emanuele Lulli, who has made a strong impression since being introduced to senior football by Gian Piero Gasperini.

Tottenham’s scouts were apparently attending Roma games to monitor Brazilian defender Wesley, but Lulli also caught their attention, with the feedback sent to the club’s recruitment department urging decision makers to consider him as a serious potential signing.

Arsenal and Liverpool scouts are said to have reached similar conclusions, while several other major English clubs are aware of the defender’s progress.

Lulli is a tall and athletic full-back who can offer energy at both ends of the pitch.

The 19-year-old has come through Roma’s youth system and quickly earned the trust of Gasperini, whose approach places major physical demands on his wide defenders.

Gianluca Falsini, who previously coached Lulli in Roma’s Primavera side, has highlighted the mentality behind the youngster’s rise.

“Lulli? First of all, I’d talk about the boy: he’s incredible, a Roma fan with Giallorossi blood flowing through his veins,” Falsini told Retesport.

“He’s resilient, he’s a good listener, we’d all love to have him as a son: he’s extraordinary. Emanuele has incredible pace, his best quality is his constant improvement.

“When I started, he had great physical ability, strength, power, and he had some issues, so much so that he struggled to rebalance his body, but he did it by working with dedication every day.”

Falsini believes the teenager still needs to improve his final ball, short passing and defending in isolated situations. However, he has been encouraged by Lulli’s willingness to listen and develop.

Falsini also offered a clear verdict on the environment currently helping Lulli progress, saying that Gasperini’s style of play suits him perfectly.

Tottenham’s interest remains at the monitoring stage and the competition would be fierce if Roma ever opened the door to a sale.

However, the recommendation from their scouts shows Lulli has already done enough to stand out while they were assessing somebody else entirely.

Spurs may need more immediate help in January, particularly in attack, but Lulli represents a different part of their recruitment plan.
