AEW News Roundup: Devastating Health Setback; Major Names Split; WWE Signing Imminent?

Welcome to this week’s AEW News Roundup. There have been highly interesting developments regarding the names from the Jacksonville-based wrestling promotion. One is the split of an iconic tag team duo after one jumped ship to another company.

In other news, a popular star from the women’s division announced a major health setback, while another star’s immediate future was announced. Lastly, a former AEW World Champion has teased that a popular WWE star will leave the TKO-led company after his recent move. So without any further delay, let’s dive deep into this week’s News Roundup:

#5. AEW star Anna Jay announced a devastating health update

Anna Jay has been a consistent fixture for AEW’s women’s division for years. However, Jack Perry’s real-life partner hasn’t appeared on television since June. During her absence, Tony Khan revealed that Jay was dealing with an injury and needed treatment. She confirmed this during a Twitch livestream, saying that she was consulting doctors to discuss her options.

In her latest livestream, Anna Jay confirmed that she would need shoulder surgery and was going to get it done in the next week or two. Jay admitted that she did not want to get surgery, but after consulting multiple doctors, it was the best option for her health.

“Okay, how is the injury? I’ll give you guys the update. It’s a little unfortunate, I do have to have shoulder surgery… I’m gonna be having that in the next week or two.. I did not wanna have surgery, obviously, no one wants to have surgery, but the reason it’s taken me this long is because I’ve gotten multiple opinions from different doctors and different surgeons just to make sure that I’m making the right choice and the best for my shoulder. So that is what’s going on.”

This could mean that the 28-year-old star might miss significant time in the ring. So we will have to wait and see when she returns to in-ring action.

#4. MJF teases that popular WWE star is leaving the promotion

AEW top star MJF has been absent from television since the All In 2026 event. During his hiatus, he decided to stir up conversation at WWE star Carmelo Hayes’ expense. The Salt of the Earth recently dropped a photo of himself and Hayes from a match years ago, seemingly teasing that Hayes might leave the TKO-led company and join All Elite Wrestling in the future. MJF’s tease could have some truth to it. Carmelo Hayes has had a lackluster run for a while now.

On the road to WrestleMania 42, he was booked to lose the United States title to Sami Zayn, costing him a spot at The Show of Shows. After that, he began a storyline with his former ally, Trick Williams, over the US title, but Baron Corbin replaced him heading into SummerSlam 2026 Premium Live Event. Moreover, the former NXT Champion hasn’t been seen on TV since August, and he recently blacked out his official X account. So, all signs point to MJF’s tease that Hayes could leave WWE to explore other options.

#3. Iconic AEW couple have officially parted ways

One of AEW’s most popular tag teams has split after recent events at TNA’s latest pay-per-view. The aforementioned stars are former Acclaimed members, Anthony Bowens and Max Caster. The self-proclaimed Best Wrestler Alive recently made his TNA debut, facing Moose at TNA Bound for Glory 2026. This meant that he and Anthony Bowens have officially parted ways. Meanwhile, Bowens is reportedly a free agent; however, he is still listed on the AEW roster page, which could mean he might re-sign with the Jacksonville-based company.

#2. Huge announcement on Britt Baker’s immediate future

Britt Baker finally returned to AEW after almost two years at All In 2026 and aligned herself with Persephone. The duo’s partnership has been going strong for a while now and is set to team up for the upcoming three-hour episode of Dynamite and Collision. In an announcement made by the company, Baker and Persephone will battle Dani Luna and Hyan in a tag showdown.

“#AEWDynamite/#AEWCollision 10/14, 8/7c, TBS & HBO Max Persephone/@RealBrittBaker vs @DaniLuna_pro /@_thehyan After the DMD helped Persephone beat Dani at All Out, Luna joins Hyan, who has her own score to settle with the TBS Champion! They’ll fight in Cleveland, This Wednesday!”

With The Doctor and her CMLL ally going strong for weeks, it remains to be seen whether they can secure a win in the upcoming tag team match.

#1. Jon Moxley set for a major return outside AEW

Jon Moxley wrestled in Japan for a while after leaving WWE and achieved huge success. After his spectacular run as the Ace of AEW, Moxley recently announced he would be returning to NJPW at the recent King of Pro-Wrestling event. The video was shared by NJPW on X with Moxley, alongside Marina Shafir, saying:

“The Death Riders ride east. Jon Moxley returns to New Japan Pro Wrestling,” said the former Dean Ambrose.

This followed former IWGP World Champion Shingo Takagi calling him out a few days ago. With Moxley announcing his blockbuster return, the two stars are likely heading toward a singles collision soon.
