NBA analyst Brian Windhorst made a bold claim about the Celtics’ true feelings on Jaylen Brown on Wednesday. The insider offered his remarks after the forward was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, despite a stellar performance last season.
According to Windhorst, the Celtics reportedly believed Derrick White was their best player last term instead of Brown. His comments were later reshared on X (formerly Twitter) by a fan account.
Thanks for the submission!
“Brian Windhorst: ‘Even though Jaylen Brown was talking about himself for MVP, the Celtics did not feel like Jaylen had the best season on their team. They felt that Derrick White had a better season.’ Via The Hoop Collective, @ESPNNBA,” the handle wrote.

Brown has been on the trade block for quite some time now. The former Finals MVP was reportedly the centerpiece of Boston’s trade package for Giannis Antetokounmpo. While a deal with Milwaukee didn’t materialize, the 76ers struck a deal with the Celtics.
Sending Paul George alongside multiple picks to Boston, the deal was a win-win for both parties. Boston significantly reduced their cap space, while Philadelphia receives a bona fide star to fit alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
The trade also allows the Celtics to rebuild. After dropping major contracts last offseason, Boston has remained vigilant about the luxury tax threshold and has made some smart moves that help them compete while adhering to the cap limit.
NBA insider highlights a major detail in Jaylen Brown’s blockbuster trade to the Philadelphia 76ers
Jaylen Brown ended his 10-year-long association with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday after getting traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. While rumors about his future were swirling in the media, the forward was expected to stay in Boston, but was shockingly shipped to Philly for Paul George.
Although the deal left many confused, NBA insider Shams Charania highlighted major details of the deal on SportsCenter, claiming the forward’s move was a domino effect of Boston missing out on Giannis.
“They tried to trade for Giannis, they offered Jaylen Brow and two unprotected first-round picks, but they missed out. But ever since then … they were actively shopping full-blown shopping Jaylen Brown.”
“My understanding is Jaylen Brown through all of this, never requested a trade. He never asked out of Boston.”
While the details of the deal are still emerging, Brown will be heading to Phillly where he will look to create a big three alongside Maxey and Embiid.
