Why Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski may not pitch in MLB All-Star Game

Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski has been, arguably, the best starting pitcher in Major League Baseball this season and one of the league’s most must-see players. He would seem to be a lock to start the All-Star Game for the National League later this month, or at the very least pitch in the game.

But there is a very good possibility that does not happen.

Brewers rotation might prevent Misiorowski from pitching in All-Star Game

With the way the Brewers rotation is lined up, Misiorowski is expected to start Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, and then once again on Sunday, July 12, against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the final game before the league’s All-Star break.

If he starts that Sunday game that would make him ineligible to pitch in the All-Star Game. All starting pitchers for that Sunday will be held out of the game.

Misiorowski acknowledged that reality following Thursday’s game.

    From the Associated Press:

“I get it,” Misiorowski said after the Brewers’ 7-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. “I get we’re not looking for right now. We’re looking for September, October. It sucks — obviously I want to throw in a game like that — but so be it.”

Along with lighting up the radar gun in a way almost no other pitcher has in the modern era, Misiorowski is posting a 1.47 ERA with 156 strikeouts in only 104 innings through Thursday’s game.

Every time he takes the mound he is a serious threat to throw a no-hitter or strike out at least 10 batters. He is exactly the type of pitcher fans want to see, and especially going up against the other top stars in the league.

Having said that, there is a bigger responsibility and concern for his team to have him healthy for games that actually matter in the. standings. The Brewers are the top team in the National League Central and have their eyes on a potential World Series run. They will need a healthy Misiorowski if that is going to happen, and any extended break he can get during the season could play a big role in making sure he is ready.
