Former NHL star Jeremy Roenick offered a robust defense of President Donald Trump during a Turning Point USA “Build the Red Wall” rally in Phoenix on Friday, describing the president in glowing terms as the nation grapples with an ongoing conflict in Iran.
Roenick appeared alongside former race car driver Danica Patrick at the Dream City Church event where he delivered impassioned remarks about Trump’s presidency amid one of the most turbulent periods of the administration.
The former NHLer, who has known Trump for over two decades, drew on their long personal relationship to characterize the president’s motivations. Roenick offered his assessment of Trump’s position and the challenges he faces.
“Literally the most powerful man in the entire world and the best president that’s ever ever walked on the United States soil for what he’s trying to do and for somebody who does not have to do that, what he goes through on a daily basis, on a yearly basis,” Roenick said.
He shared his view of Trump’s commitment to the country.
“This guy just loves America. I’ve known him for 25 years. He wants what’s best for the people here and even the people that are against him and I think that’s a noble quality to have,” Roenick stated.
The timing of Roenick’s appearance is notable, coming as the death toll in the Middle East has climbed to nearly 6,000 people since the U.S. and Israel began launching strikes on Iran more than a month ago.
Jeremy Roenick has been a longtime supporter of President Donald Trump
This is not the first time Jeremy Roenick has publicly defended the president. In February 2026, he blasted critics of the U.S. men’s hockey team after they celebrated their Olympic gold medal victory in a locker room with FBI director Kash Patel, who then called President Trump to congratulate them.
During an appearance on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” the former NHL star condemned what he viewed as the politicization of the team’s celebration.
“Sports is not supposed to be political. It’s supposed to unite the country. We’re all supposed to get together and believe in one thing,” Roenick said at the time.
“The hypocrites are coming out in droves and it’s unfortunate we can’t take the greatest moments in sports and all celebrate it. It’s a real shame,” he added.
Roenick’s relationship with political controversy dates back further. In 2020, he filed a lawsuit against NBC Sports alleging that he was fired not just for lewd comments about a female coworker, but for being a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump.
