Better than Bruno: Man Utd ready bid for “most complete player in the world”

Manchester United’s plans for the 2026/27 campaign have already started to take shape, with the managerial situation appearing to be edging towards a conclusion.

Temporary boss Michael Carrick has been in the role for the last 15 Premier League matches, winning ten and ultimately securing the club Champions League football once again.

As a result, the 44-year-old appears to have been handed the Red Devils job on a permanent basis after agreeing a two-year deal with the option for an additional year at Old Trafford.

INEOS’ attention will no doubt turn towards the transfer market to try and bolster the squad ahead of the return to Europe’s biggest competition next term.

Despite the window not opening until early June, work has already commenced behind the scenes to land various big-money talents ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Man Utd line up huge bid for European star

Over recent days, United have once again ramped up their interest in landing the signature of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest during the summer window.

The Red Devils have made the England international one of their top transfer targets, with club-to-club talks expected with Vitor Pereira’s side in the coming weeks.

However, any deal would likely be a club-record for United, as Forest have placed a staggering £100m price tag on the 23-year-old’s head to fend off any interest.

Anderson isn’t the only midfielder in their sights ahead of the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid star Federico Valverde another option currently being considered.

According to Football Insider, Carrick’s side are preparing an offer for the Uruguayan international after his recent bust-up with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

The report also states that the Red Devils are extremely keen to secure his signature, even seeing the 27-year-old as a perfect replacement for the outgoing Casemiro.

No fee has been mentioned ahead of any possible transfer, but it’s likely the Spanish giants will demand a pretty penny to offload the experienced star this summer.

Why Valverde would be better than Bruno for United

United’s success in the Premier League this campaign has no doubt come as a result of the impact of Portuguese international Bruno Fernandes.

The 31-year-old has been one of the division’s most influential attacking stars, as seen by his remarkable tally of 19 assists in 33 top-flight appearances.

He’s now just two assists away from breaking the division’s all-time record, with no player ever registering 21 assists since the league’s formation back in 1992.

Fernandes has already been named as the club’s Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign, with the club captain undoubtedly their shining light in forward areas.

However, a deal for Valverde this summer could see the club land a talent who’s arguably better than Bruno and one who can take the Red Devils to the next level in the years ahead.

The Uruguayan international has experience of being a winner, as seen by his remarkable tally of seven major honours won – including two Champions League titles.

He can also operate in a variety of midfield roles if needed, or even at right-back – subsequently having the versatility needed for any successful top-level star.

As a result, Valverde has been dubbed “the most complete player in the world” by Carlo Ancelotti, with his stats from this season backing up such a claim.

He’s managed to complete 90% of the passes he’s attempted this campaign, whilst also managing to create 1.5 chances per 90 for those around him at Bernabeu.

Both of the aforementioned tallies demonstrate his talent with the ball at his feet, subsequently placing him within the top 10% of all midfielders in Europe this term.

    Federico Valverde

Valverde has also come out on top in 61% of the ground duels he’s entered, whilst also making a staggering 4.7 ball recoveries per 90 – also placing him in the top 15% of players in LaLiga.

Such figures highlight his ability to regain possession for the Spanish giants, with his all-round quality potentially making him the perfect box-to-box midfielder for United.

Whilst it’s unclear how much a deal for the Real Madrid star this summer, he’s a player who would massively improve the options at Carrick’s disposal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

His arrival would certainly soften the blow of Casemiro’s pending departure at Old Trafford and would hand the side a top-level option for the foreseeable future.

Overtaking the success of Bruno in Manchester may be a tricky feat, but if anyone can provide the quality needed to take the side to the next level – it is Valverde.
