Austin Dillon was proud of Richard Childress Racing’s top-5 effort on Sunday’s All-Star race at Dover Motor Speedway. Dillon gave his props to the No.3 team and called it an ‘all-around solid day’.
Dillon began outside the top-10 and survived a barrage of wrecks that plagued the 200-lap event. His teammate, Kyle Busch, got caught up in a ‘big one’ and was seen driving in reverse as he entered pit road.
Thanks for the submission!
The two-time Cup champion ultimately finished two laps down in 17th, but it was Dillon who proved to be RCR’s saviour, finishing fourth. He was also one of the five drivers to lead a lap on Sunday.
Speaking to Frontstretch post-race, Dillon shared a heartfelt message on Richard Childress Racing.
“I’m just proud of RCR, proud of ECR, proud of the,” said Dillon,”You know our teammates helped us this weekend and our guys did a great job getting the car as close as they could and we made great adjustments today. It was just all around solid day for us.”
“Well, RCR never gives up, you know, we’re workers, we work hard….those Gibbs cars are really fast. That was cool to be the top finish in Chevy today and represent Chevrolet like we did,” he added.
Toyotas were the strongest on Sunday, as JGR’s Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, and Legacy Motor Club’s Erik Jones placed top-3, respectively. Connor Zilisch grabbed his maiden top-5 this season and held off Ford’s Austin Cindric.
Briscoe, on his part, slammed the All-Star race for going too long.
Kyle Busch makes JGR comparison amid Richard Childress Racing turnaround
Richard Childress Racing recently appointed Andy Street as Kyle Busch’s new crew chief, replacing Jim Pohlman after a streak of middling results. The switch worked, as Busch scored his second top-10 at Watkins Glen International.
He’d already racked up multiple top-10s when he was paired with Street last year. Reflecting upon the turnaround, he made a comparison with his championship-winning years with JGR crew chief, Adam Stevens.
“It was crazy and it was just easy… So when you can find those moments and you can find those guys that you can really, really click with. Man you try to do everything in your power to keep it all together as much as you can,” he said.
Kyle Busch is yet to break his prolonges winless streak that dates back to 2023. His recent antics have been the subject of scrutiny as well. The Richard Childress Racing driver drew backlash for taking out John Hunter Nemechek on the final laps at Texas.
Critics grew louder when Ryan Preece was penalised for an altercation with Ty Gibbs, while Busch was left scott-free. Even Busch’s brother, Kurt Busch, admitted that the No.8 team should’ve been penalised..
