Liverpool are now battling Paris Saint-Germain to sign Maghnes Akliouche, as they look to find their replacement for Mohamed Salah this summer.
Liverpool battling to sign Akliouche
Whilst they’ve still got the small matter of the Brentford game and Champions League football to confirm, Liverpool will be more desperate than most to forget this season ever happened.
They spent big and broke transfer records last summer. It looked as though the title would be theirs once again and, for the first time in the Premier League era, in back-to-back seasons. Over £400m later, however, and Arne Slot‘s tenure has never looked more at risk and Liverpool could yet miss out on a place among Europe’s elite.

As such, it could be yet another summer of spending, especially as those at Anfield go in search of replacing Salah with an impressive France international in the coming months.
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool are battling PSG to sign Akliouche this summer. The AS Monaco forward has impressed scouts during their in-person checks and looks set to leave the French club ahead of next season.
The Reds are, of course, not the only side interested, however. Valued at £57m by previous reports, the winger is viewed as a standout name in the Premier League and is also on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Manchester United, whilst PSG are monitoring his progress extremely closely.
For Liverpool, it’s all about doing the impossible and replacing Salah. Whether Akliouche is at that level is the question that they must ask themselves. Dubbed “excellent” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the 24-year-old is still so full of potential.
“Excellent” Akliouche could reshape Liverpool’s attack
Liverpool will need to fast-track their five stages of grief to accept that replacing Salah is an impossible task this summer. Instead, they must aim to reshape their attack with a different style of wide man. And that’s where Akliouche could come in.
The Monaco star has been involved in 18 goals in all competitions this season, but 11 of those involvements have been assists. He is a creator rather than the talisman that Salah became at Anfield, but that’s perfectly suitable when players like Alexander Isak are available next season.

It would benefit a player like Isak to take hold of the talisman role at Liverpool, whilst the likes of Akliouche act as much-needed creators. The dynamic of the Reds’ attack has already threatened to change for the worst this season, but that can all change with the addition of some creativity.
Although beating PSG to a player of Akliouche’s potential won’t be routine, Liverpool should push on and welcome the Monaco star this summer.
