In fact, the Turkish star has never made it beyond the first round; a record she would be keen on changing this year.

The current World No. 53 notably won the 2017 Charleston Open and more recently, this year’s WTA 125 Catalonia Open; her two career title triumphs on clay. Her experience makes her the favorite to defeat Sonmez and progress to the second round of the 2026 French Open.
Sonmez, on the other hand, despite her relative lack of inexperience on clay, definitely has it in her to test Kasatkina.
