The 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway in Mexico City on Thursday, with Mexico taking on South Africa to kick-off the first 48-team tournament in the event’s history.
As one of three host countries, “El Tri,” will hope to get out of their group featuring South Korea and Czechia in addition to South Africa and reach at least their first quarterfinal since they hosted on their own in 1986.
