It was officially announced last night that Jack Perry has re-signed with AEW. A report has come out explaining why the WWE did not sign him and that the company did not pursue him more strongly.
At Beach Break, the Tony Khan-led promotion aired a video package showing Perry’s history with the company. This ended with them revealing that he was staying with the company. News of his contract expiring has been making the rounds for some time now, but there has been no official movement from their end until now.
It has just been reported on WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select that there were little to no internal discussions about WWE looking to sign Jack Perry once his contract was up. The company reportedly did not feel he was a good fit for their current landscape. It seems Perry was not on WWE’s radar at all.
Jack Perry hinted at signing with other major promotions
The former TNT Champion has not been seen in AEW for more than two weeks, and during that time, he has been hinting at his next move, as he was still in contract negotiations.
Almost two weeks ago, Jack Perry suddenly posted a throwback picture of himself from his brief tenure in NJPW, during which he aligned with House of Torture. He seemed to hint at returning to the Japanese promotion once he became a free agent.
There was also another interesting angle, as he may have hinted at reuniting with his former stable’s leader, Naraku (FKA Evil), who was now in NXT.
In the end, he re-signed with AEW and will now be returning as one-half of Jurassic Express and an ally of The Elite. Last time, he had a brief run as the National Champion before Mark Davis dethroned him. He was also an entrant in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
He could look to pursue championship gold once he returns to TV under his new contract with the company. Perry is one of the AEW originals and remains a highly valued talent internally.
