Enzo Fernandez continues to be linked with a transfer away from Chelsea with Manchester City understood to be keen on his services if Rodri departs the club in the ongoing transfer window.
With the Argentine’s exit this summer a strong proposition, the Blues have started looking at the transfer market for possible replacements, especially after Andrey Santos also left the club to join Manchester United earlier on.
Italian source Siamo la Roma has reported that Chelsea are now keen on signing Manu Kone from AS Roma, with the French international expected to join one of Europe’s bigger clubs this summer.
Kone is valued at £43 million on Transfermarkt and as per the source, Roma are also resigned to losing him this month, whereas personal terms between the player and Chelsea may not be an issue given his desire for a new challenge.
Kone an excellent replacement for Fernandez
If Enzo Fernandez leaves Chelsea this summer, Manu Kone promises to be the ideal replacement for the former Benfica midfielder thanks to his versatility in the engine room which equips him to successfully play in a number of positions.
The 25-year-old has a strong physical prowess, a high success rate at winning duels and reads the game cleverly to thwart the opposition’s attacks, while in possession, he is capable of driving the ball forward and is resistant to pressure.
Considering he has emerged as a key member of France’s squad, his stock is on the high, more so after a decent World Cup and as he bids to win silverware at a club level, Kone is likely to be open to joining Chelsea in the ongoing transfer window.
It will be interesting to see whether the Londoners are immediately prepared to materialise their interest in Kone, or whether they will await a resolution on Enzo Fernandez’s future before pursuing his transfer more intently.
