The year was 2017, and WWE Superstar Chelsea Green just happened to be part of one of the craziest wrestling segments on TV. Back then, though, she was in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling, named Laurel Van Ness.
The segment took place between Green and Scottish star Grado on the August 24, 2017, episode of IMPACT. In storyline, Grado was looking to marry a United States citizen in order to avoid deportation. That is where Green/Van Ness comes into the picture.

After weeks of buildup, while Grado bid goodbye to America on his last night there, the current Interim WWE Women’s Champion came out and said this:
“Grado, you’re the peanut butter to my jelly. You are the whipped cream to my Twinkie, the barbecue sauce to my ribs! There’s just one small little thing that I wanted to ask you. Can I ask him? (Gets on one knee) Grado, will you marry me?!”

Grado accepted Chelsea Green’s offer at the time. However, the wedding was called off when the popular star learned his wife-to-be was actually Canadian, not American!
In real life, Green would go on to marry fellow wrestler Matt Cardona in 2021. The two had already started dating in January 2017, months before the segment above aired.
Chelsea Green’s Real-Life Marriage Explored In WWE Unreal
Matt Cardona returned to WWE last year, ending up in the same company as his wife. As a result, his marriage with Chelsea Green was highlighted on the latest season of WWE Unreal.
Green recently spoke about working on screen with Cardona. Appearing on ETalk, she explained why it was inevitable:
“Matt [Cardona] and I have been together for ten years. We’ve had so many instances in our careers where we almost crossed paths, where we’ve almost worked together. We’ve almost been on the same show. And it was an amazing moment to be able to have him brought back to WWE and have us able to work together on-screen, on SmackDown, but then also have backstage footage from Unreal… So, for Matt and I to end up on screen together, in my opinion, was inevitable. You cannot avoid the fact that we’re together. We’re both in WWE.”
Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona crossed paths with Gunther on a recent episode of WWE SmackDown. Just like the Grado segment all those years ago, it went viral.
