Big Ten, MAC release statements on controversial ending
On a 2nd-and-10 Late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest, Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood fired a deep pass intended for wide receiver Andrew Marsh. Although it appeared that time had expired, the officiating crew ruled that one second remained after reviewing the play. Underwood then launched a 47-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver JJ Buchanan, giving the Wolverines the win.
The Big Ten shared a video of Western Michigan safety Micah Davis (No. 18) touching the ball with one second left on the Wolverines’ stadium clock. By rule, if a player who’s out of bounds touches the ball with one second left, the time remains on the clock.
“Following video review, it was determined Western Michigan No. 18 started his jump from an established out-of-bounds position (left foot) and made contact with the ball with one second remaining on the clock,” the conference said.
