The San Francisco 49ers opened the season with a dominant 27-7 win against the Los Angeles Rams in Thursday’s Week 1 clash in Melbourne. 49ers linebacker Fred Warner took subtle jabs at Rams coach Sean McVay after the win.
The Rams made a strong start to the game and their defenders performed a mock sleeping celebration after safety Quentin Lake intercepted 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in the second quarter.
Thanks for the submission!
However, the 49ers turned around the game in the second half by scoring 17 unanswered points. Warned mocked the Rams players’ sleeping celebration in his Instagram post. He also shared a clip of McVay’s pregame comment about the Rams being “well rested” for the game.

The Rams arrived in Australia just a day before the game, while the 49ers were preparing for the season opener in the country for a week. Warner, who returned to the field for the first time in 11 months after a serious ankle injury last year, acknowledged that the 49ers grew stronger as the game passed.
“I think it was definitely a matter of us feeling like we got stronger as the game went on,” Warner said. “The opposing team, it felt like they kinda withered away.
“Our plan was great. Coming out here early, all the resources they gave us to be successful for today is what gave us a chance to win this game.”

Rams coach Sean McVay dismissed role of late Australia arrival in Week 1 loss
The Rams’ decision to arrive in Australia a few hours before Thursday’s game has sparked backlash from the NFL community in the wake of their underwhelming performance.
However, Rams coach Sean McVay said that their performance was not down to their late arrival in Australia.
“I don’t believe that’s why we didn’t play well enough,” McVay said. “I really don’t. … I’ll always make decisions that I think are best for the football team. It’s easy in hindsight to be able to say it was a miss, but those are responsibilities that I’ll take.”
The Rams return from Australia and start their preparation for the Week 2 clash against the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
