“Soft call”, “Suspension worthy”: Fans split after Brandon Carlo ejected for knee-on-knee contact with Roope Hintz

St. Louis Blues defenseman Brandon Carlo was ejected from Friday’s season opener against the Dallas Stars after a knee-on-knee collision with Roope Hintz.

The incident unfolded in the third period after Carlo’s contact left Hintz briefly down on the ice and needing help to the bench, though he later returned to the game.

Officials assessed Brandon Carlo a five-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct following a review.

Here’s the video of the incident:

The call quickly sparked discussion among fans on social media, with one tweeting:

    “Soft call.”

    Another chimed in:

    “Suspension worthy.”

Here are some of the other top reactions on X:

“These calls confuse me. 5-min major because someone tried to jump out of the way,” a third fan wrote.

“All that “dodging at the last second” talk is crazy when you can literally see him commit to the hit before Hintz even changes direction,” one X user opined.

“He came back. Bad hit, but not intentional. Carlo didn’t even change his path, he was committed. Glad Hintz is ok,” another chimed in.

“Leafs legend with the most atrocious knee-on-knee hit I’ve ever seen. This was worse than the one on Matthews by Gudas. 10 games at least. These hits can be career-ending. We all know George Parros is only going to give a 1-game suspension, though, because he’s an idiot,” added another.

Brandon Carlo’s Blues shut out Stars 4-0 in season opener

On Friday, the St. Louis Blues defeated the Dallas Stars 4-0 in their season opener at American Airlines Center.

Mason McTavish opened the scoring for the Blues at 1:34 of the first period. This was the lone goal scored in the opening frame. Dalibor Dvorsky increased the Blues’ lead to 2-0 at 13:05 of the second period.

The Blues continued their domination in the third period, with empty-net goals from Jimmy Snuggerud and Pius Suter securing a dominant shutout victory for the visitors. Netminder Joel Hofer was impressive in goal, recording 25 saves throughout the game.

The Dallas Stars will aim to recover when they face the Nashville Predators on the road on Saturday. Brandon Carlo and the Blues, meanwhile, will be up against the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow.
