AEW News & Rumor Roundup: Massive Bombshell Dropped, Chris Jericho’s next opponent confirmed, former champion will not wrestle again

Welcome along to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling’s AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today, we are covering news about major All Elite Wrestling stars, such as Chris Jericho, among others.

A popular star has dropped a massive AEW bombshell. Meanwhile, Chris Jericho’s next opponent has been confirmed after a victorious outing at Double or Nothing 2026, and a former champion has confirmed he will remain retired. We’ve got some exciting stories coming out of All Elite Wrestling today, so without further ado, let’s get this roundup underway.

#4. Christopher Daniels confirms he will never wrestle again

Christopher Daniels has officially confirmed that he will not be stepping back inside the squared circle for another match. The Fallen Angel arrived in the promotion at its inception in 2019, began focusing much more on his backstage responsibilities starting in 2021, and continued to wrestle sporadically before deciding to embark on one final run in 2024. That run concluded in January 2025, and the 56-year-old veteran has now doubled down on his decision to stay permanently retired.

During a recent virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest, the former ROH World Champion was asked if he had any desire to wrestle again. He responded honestly about his physical condition, explaining that he had watched some of his final matches and noticed that he was visibly slowing down. The Fallen Angel then confirmed he has no desire to return to in-ring action.

“I have to be honest and say I wasn’t really in the best of shape, and I could tell that I was slowing down, and so, yeah… the way it ended for me is probably best that it ended, and yeah, I don’t really have a desire to get back into it just because I don’t wanna embarrass myself, said Daniels [H/T: Fightful]”

Daniels currently serves the company as Head of Talent Relations and as a match producer.

#3. Chris Jericho vs Ricochet rematch will take place on AEW Dynamite+Collision (May 27)

Chris Jericho continues to compete at an incredibly high level at 55. The Nueve has been locked in a heated feud with The Demand since returning to the Jacksonville-based company earlier this year. At the Dynasty 2026 pay-per-view, he faced Ricochet but ultimately failed to secure a victory. However, Jericho found redemption at Double or Nothing 2026, where he teamed with The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin) and The Elite (Kenny Omega, Jack Perry, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson) to win a chaotic Stadium Stampede match. They defeated The Demand (Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona), the Don Callis Family (Mark Davis and Andrade El Idolo), and The Dogs (Clark Connors and David Finlay).

Following this monumental victory, All Elite Wrestling has officially announced that Jericho and Ricochet will have their highly anticipated Dynasty rematch on this week’s live three-hour Dynamite and Collision special. To ensure a fair fight and a definitive conclusion to their rivalry, Tony Khan has mandated a strict ban on ringside activity during the showdown.

#2. MJF says AEW will d*e if he were to leave

MJF reclaimed his place at the top of the All Elite Wrestling mountain by defeating Darby Allin to win back the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing 2026. The Salt of the Earth had previously lost the title to the relentless Daredevil at the Dynamite: Spring BreakThru television special. After the loss, MJF repeatedly demanded a rematch, which Allin eventually granted under a severe “Title vs. Hair” stipulation. If MJF lost, Allin would shave his head completely bald. Ultimately, Friedman emerged victorious, securing his third World Championship at age 30 and keeping his precious hair intact.

Prior to his massive victory at the pay-per-view, MJF participated in a Q&A session with The Hollywood Reporter, where he dropped a major bombshell. When asked what would happen to AEW if he decided to move to WWE or transition to Hollywood full-time, the Wolf of Wrestling boldly claimed that the promotion would suffer a fast d**th.

“It d*es. It d*es probably a fast — not even a slow and painful death. And that’s OK, you know. I love AEW, I love everybody that works there, but, like I said, I can’t be in the position I’m in without having the pass the ball, but if they couldn’t pass the ball back to me? Jesus Christ. God bless ’em. I’m the most-important piece of the puzzle,” said MJF [H/T:hollywoodreporter.com]

#1. Tony Khan announces Kevin Knight’s appearance for AEW Dynamite+Collision

The AEW World Championship match at Double or Nothing 2026 ended with an incredibly shocking and brutal post-match angle. After MJF won the title, he celebrated by standing on top of Darby Allin, who was lying on a medical stretcher. This arrogant celebration was quickly interrupted by reigning TNT Champion Kevin Knight, who sprinted to the ring and chased Friedman away. However, just as medical professionals attempted to wheel Allin to the backstage area, The Jet executed an unexpected and vicious heel turn, delivering a devastating UFO splash directly onto Allin while he was strapped to the stretcher, then flipped the entire stretcher over.

In response to these terrible actions, Tony Khan took to social media to announce that Kevin Knight will publicly address his shocking betrayal during Wednesday’s special three-hour broadcast of Dynamite and Collision.
