Travis Kelce sends fun warning to Patrick Mahomes after latest business decision

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes are still in the early stages of preparing for what may become the final season of Kelce’s playing career.

It was learned on Wednesday that the two will now be rivals away from the football field.

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are now battling for MLB bragging rights

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Kelce is joining the Cleveland Guardians ownership group as a minority investor. Meanwhile, Mahomes became a minority owner with the Kansas City Royals back in the summer of 2020.

The 32-25 Guardians began Wednesday holding a nine-game lead over the 22-33 Royals in the American League Central Division standings.

“We’re both as competitive as it gets, so you know there will be some bragging rights on the line when we play our division games,” Kelce said about Mahomes. “But I really have a lot of respect for the Royals and their organization. It was a fun time in Kansas City, cheering them on for their World Series win in 2015.”

As Kelce referenced, the Royals defeated the New York Mets in the 2015 World Series. While the Guardians haven’t won a World Series since 1948, Cleveland claimed the division crown over each of the past two seasons.

Travis Kelce opens up about purchasing a stake in the Guardians

Kelce and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, Travis’ brother, are originally from Cleveland Heights and grew up fans of the local professional sports teams. Most recently, Travis Kelce and his wife-to-be, Taylor Swift, attended an Eastern Conference Finals game involving the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New York Knicks that was held in downtown Cleveland.

“I have so much love for this city,” Travis Kelce added about Cleveland while speaking with Passan. “I say it all the time: I’m just a kid from the Heights living the dream. I credit every good thing in my life to Cleveland and being raised here with the values and the people and the work ethic. Cleveland Heights is such a diverse and dynamic place. Every friend, neighbor, teacher and teammate — they all made me the man I am today. It just fueled such a deep appreciation for life and community and service. That mentality of Cleveland against the world runs deep.”

If nothing else, Wednesday’s developments caused some Cleveland media personalities and Guardians fans to dream big regarding what Travis Kelce and Swift could do for the MLB club at some point down the road:
