Goldberg retired from wrestling, not just WWE, just a year ago. His last bout was against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, which he ended up losing. However, years before that, he was an unstoppable force and crushed his opponents with few exceptions. In a recent X post, a former WWE star claimed to have a passion for taking those multiple Spears from Goldberg.
The moment traces back to SummerSlam 2019, where Goldberg decimated WWE’s Dolph Ziggler, now known as Nic Nemeth. The former WCW star made it a two-minute squash match. Nemeth now, when asked about his favorite opponent, said it was anyone but Goldberg. He replied to a fan who asked why he took those three Spears, saying it was “for the love of the game.”
Thanks for the submission!
Even in a loss, Nemeth sold all the Hall of Famer’s moves like the rent was due. Seeing that it went without saying what wrestling means for the TNA World Champion and how he gave his best, purely for the business and its fans. As the match only needed Goldberg’s one Spear and a Jackhammer for the pin. However, Nemeth’s trash-talking provoked the legend into delivering two additional Spears.
Goldberg’s biggest obstacle in his WWE/WCW career
Goldberg’s biggest physical challenge of his legendary career was none other than The Big Show, aka Paul Wight. The 59-year-old legend’s appearance in Memphis in May saw him reveal that “obstacle” of facing The World’s Largest Athlete. As Goldberg and Big Show clashed multiple times during their shared days in WCW, leading to that time when the former held the massive giant for his signature Jackhammer finisher.
“And to give you a little behind-the-scenes info, he hated being upside down,” he said. “Obviously, a man that size, it’s very rare that anybody could do that to him, but he had never been up in that move. I tried to hold him up in the air as long as possible to where he would squeal, and I’d let him down.
“That was the only way that I could have any control over a guy that big. So, he, no question, was my largest obstacle.”
However, the former Universal Champion admitted it was never an easy task, noting that Big Show wasn’t a fan of being slammed around like a cruiserweight. On the other hand, it goes without saying that lifting the 500-pound behemoth was a difficult task for him, too.
