Guillermo Duarte, the lawyer of Paraguay senator Celeste Amarilla, has warned FIFA World Cup ace Kylian Mbappe that he could face legal action and be extradited to Paraguay. His comments arrived after Mbappe slammed Amarilla on social media for her racist tirade.
Kylian Mbappe proved to be the hero for Les Bleus after he scored a penalty to help them secure a 1-0 win over Paraguay in their FIFA Round of 16 clash on July 4. However, Celeste Amarilla went on a racist rant soon after, insulting the 27-year-old’s heritage, appearance, and personality.
Thanks for the submission!
In response, Mbappe fired back online, calling Amarilla out for her unacceptable comments, labeling her as a woman who ruined Paraguay’s image due to her racism. However, the latter refused to back down, claiming the Real Madrid superstar showed disrespect after he refused to shake hands with Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill after their FIFA World Cup clash.
Celeste Amarilla recently claimed she was the victim of discrimination and threatened to take legal action against Kylian Mbappe. Her lawyer, Guillermo Duarte, has now followed up, telling the Frenchman he could be extradited to Paraguay (via @TouchlineX):
“Celeste did not commit any punishable offence in Paraguay. Since what we consider defamation or slander is also a criminal offence in France, we can take legal action against Mbappé. He could be extradited to answer for his actions in Paraguay.”
Kylian Mbappe is set to feature for France in their FIFA World Cup quarter-final clash against Morocco later today (July 9).
“Because they have a better technical level” – Arsene Wenger names the only nation capable of stopping Kylian Mbappe’s France at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reckons only Spain are capable of preventing Kylian Mbappe’s France from winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to their superior technical level and collective play. However, he backed his nation to overcome the odds and win the prestigious competition.
Wenger said (via NDTV Sports):
“France will win the World Cup. I know you are going to say it is because I am French. But when you analyse the tournament a bit, the train is moving at a certain speed today. And you have to be capable of getting on board that train.”
He added:
”For me, the real question mark is Spain. If any team is capable of beating France right now, I would say it is Spain. Because they have a better technical level than France. They have a quality of collective play, and a culture of collective play, that nobody else in the world has at the moment. Not at this level, anyway. So it is between those two in my opinion. After that, of course, France is stronger physically.”
Four years after narrowly losing the 2022 World Cup final to Argentina, Les Bleus have looked dominant and are one of the favorites to win the 2026 edition. They have won all five of their games to date, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two.
Meanwhile, Spain have also impressed and will next face Belgium in the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals on July 10.
