Aston Villa saw several top players leave in one of the most hectic summer transfer windows in the club’s history ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

With Champions League football on the agenda again, Unai Emery may not have expected to see half of the team who won the Europa League walk out the door, but the manager and owners acted quickly to replace their departed stars with several exciting signings.

New Aston Villa Signings 2026/27

Total summer spend: £289.8m

Johan Manzambi arrived from Freiburg in a deal worth up to £59.5m if add-ons are met, after starring for Switzerland at the 2026 World Cup, and he is joined by Leon Goretzka and Joao Gomes in midfield.

Alejandro Garnacho joined on loan from Chelsea, but the biggest signing is his Blues teammate, Nicolas Jackson. Exciting winger Ibrahim Mbaye was the final attacking signing of the summer.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis at centre-back and Zion Suzuki in goal will reinforce the team’s spine, while while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Matteo Ruggeri arrive as more experienced reinforcements at the back.

Modou Keba Cisse completed a low-cost move from Austrian side LASK, with the young Senegalese centre-back brought in as developing depth at the back.

Aston Villa Departures 2026/27

Total summer sales: £317.6m

Morgan Rogers completed a huge move to Chelsea following a transfer tug of war between the Blues and London rivals Arsenal, but the Gunners did secure the signing of Ezri Konsa.

Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United after his release clause was triggered, while Lucas Digne has returned to PSG after a decade away from the French capital and Emiliano Martinez followed Rogers to west London.

Donyell Malen has sealed a move to Roma, while Enzo Barrenechea departs for Benfica after failing to fully establish himself in Emery’s midfield plans.

Lewis Dobbin has joined Championship side Southampton but the biggest striker sale is Ollie Watkins, who moved to Saudi Arabia, while a host of youngster have headed out on loan/

The attacking midfielder had become one of Villa’s most important players since joining from Middlesbrough, scoring 31 times and providing 29 assists during 125 games in the Midlands.
