Why there is no 12:30pm kick-off in the Premier League this afternoon

Premier League fans will have to wait for their footballing fix this afternoon as there is no 12:30pm kick-off on Saturday.

The Saturday slot has become a staple over the years, but this gameweek, there won’t be an early match before the 3pm ties.

This is usually to do with the broadcasters, but that isn’t the case this time.

Why is there no early kick-off this Saturday?

Well, there was meant to be, but because of Chelsea‘s European commitments, their game against Newcastle United has been moved.

In the context of the Champions League race, this is a massive tie with both sides on the same points with three fixtures left.

Therefore, it was selected by TNT Sports for their usual 12:30pm slot on Saturday, May 10.

But after Chelsea made it into the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, the match had to be changed.

The Blues sealed their place in the Europa Conference League final on Thursday with a 1-0 win over Djugarden to complete a 5-1 aggregate victory, and they will face Real Betis.

This is why the tie at St James’ Park has been moved to a 12pm start on Sunday instead.

It has left the early slot on Saturday blank with the live televised football not coming until Bournemouth v Aston Villa at 5:30pm.
