John Cena has made a promise following his recent WWE announcement. Cena served as the host of WrestleMania 42 last month in Las Vegas.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, John Cena disclosed that he would not be taking any more bumps following his retirement. The Cenation Leader lost his retirement match to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December 2025. The legend stated that while he would not be doing anything physical for the promotion, he would still be a part of the company moving forward.
Thanks for the submission!
“This was the confusing thing about retirement. First of all, I will stay retired. No fall downs. I will not do anything physical, but that doesn’t mean I’m away from WWE. Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about not only the sports entertainment business, but WWE as a brand. So it was simply a matter of like, ‘Well, where do I fit in now?’ And we’re still trying to find out those pieces, but I think we got a clear path,” he wrote. (H/T: WrestlePurists)

The 49-year-old announced the John Cena Classic tournament earlier this month at Backlash 2026. The upcoming tournament will include fan voting to determine the winner.
Jim Cornette is worried about how WWE is using John Cena
Wrestling veteran Jim Cornette shared that he was worried about how the promotion was using John Cena.
Speaking on his Drive-Thru podcast, the legend suggested that the company was having Cena appear too often following his retirement. He noted that the former champion had appeared on roughly 60% of the PLEs since he retired from in-ring competition.
“But I’m afraid they’re gonna, you know, play the John Cena card too often. He’s been retired since December. He was at both nights of WrestleMania, and he’s been at, what is that, 60% of the Premium Live Events that they’ve had since he retired. Maybe 70. I’m not good with math,” said Jim Cornette.
It will be fascinating to see what WWE has planned for the John Cena Classic tournament down the line.
