Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a dazzling knock in the team’s crucial IPL 2026 clash with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday, May 19. Rajasthan were chasing a massive 221-run target in the clash.
Suryavanshi set a great platform for the chase with his blistering batting exploits. The 15-year-old notched up a stunning half-century, crossing the 50-run mark in 23 balls. He reached his fifty with a single off Digvesh Rathi’s bowling in the 10th over.
The talented youngster came up with a cryptic celebration after the half-century, making a gesture resembling the alphabet ‘A’ with his fingers. Watch the video below:
Vaibhav Suryavanshi and stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone for the run chase with a crucial opening partnership. The two added 75 runs off 39 balls before Akash Singh dismissed Jaiswal (43 off 23) in the seventh over.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi falls short of a well-deserved ton
Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued to counterattack after his half-century to put RR in the driver’s seat. The southpaw seemed set for another hundred, but eventually fell short by seven runs, getting out for 93 off 38 balls.
On the final ball of the 14th over, Suryavanshi went for a lofted shot down the ground off a slower one from Mohsin Khan. However, he failed to get enough distance and was caught by Abdul Samad at long-on.
The opener has been the RR’s standout batter in IPL 2026. He is currently the leading run-scorer of the season, chalking up 579 runs across 13 innings at a strike rate of 236.32.
Meanwhile, a win against LSG is key for RR’s IPL 2026 qualification chances. At the time of writing, they needed 25 runs to win off 24 balls. They were 196/2 after 16 overs, with Dhruv Jurel (42* off 29) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (7* off 6) at the crease.
