Complete list of IPL Emerging Player Award Winners ft. Vaibhav Suryavanshi

The IPL has long been a platform where young talents announce themselves on the biggest stage, but IPL 2026 belonged to one teenager who took the competition by storm. Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books by becoming the youngest-ever winner of the Emerging Player of the Season award.

At just 15 years and two months of age, Suryavanshi delivered a season for the ages. The left-handed opener amassed a staggering 776 runs and smashed 72 sixes, breaking the long-standing IPL record of 59 maximums set by Chris Gayle. His fearless batting, maturity beyond his years, and consistency throughout the campaign made him the standout young performer of the tournament.

In doing so, the teenager surpassed a record that had stood for more than a decade. Former Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson previously held the distinction of being the youngest Emerging Player award winner after claiming the honour in 2013 at the age of 18 years and six months.

From Sanju Samson to Vaibhav Suryavanshi: A Rajasthan Royals connection

Interestingly, two of the youngest winners in the award’s history have come from the Rajasthan Royals setup. Samson’s breakthrough season in 2013 showcased his immense potential, while Suryavanshi’s remarkable campaign in 2026 has raised expectations of another future Indian superstar.

The award has often served as a launchpad for players who later became international stars. Rohit Sharma, Axar Patel, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan are among the notable names who have received the honour before establishing themselves at the highest level.

Ruturaj Gaikwad remains the oldest winner

While Suryavanshi now sits at the youngest end of the spectrum, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to hold the record for being the oldest Emerging Player award recipient. Gaikwad was 24 years and eight months old when he won the award in 2021. That memorable season saw him finish as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, secure the Orange Cap, and play a crucial role in Chennai Super Kings lifting the IPL trophy.

Who is eligible for the Emerging Player Award?

The BCCI has established specific guidelines to determine eligibility for the Emerging Player of the Season award. To be considered, a player must:

    • Be an uncapped player.
    • Be born after April 1, 2000.
    • Have played 25 or fewer IPL matches at the beginning of the season.
    • Not have previously won the Emerging Player Award.

These criteria ensure that the award continues to recognize fresh talent making a significant impact in the tournament.
