The New England Patriots entered the offseason with the heartbreak of a tough Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
However, hopes are high with the arrivals of A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs to help Drake Maye get back to the biggest game of the season.
That’s why, with a little over three months left to kick-offs, the Patriots can’t take unnecessary risks with their star quarterback. Considering that, head coach Mike Vrabel decided to cut practice short on the third day of mandatory minicamp, as Maye got a bit too roughed up.
Patriots cut practice short after Drake Maye injury scare
“Mike Vrabel stopped practice near the end of a competitive red-zone drill after Drake Maye ended up on the ground with a defender, and huddled the entire team up on the field,” ESPN’s Mike Reiss shared on X. “Can’t have it. Too risky. And practice ended on that note, about 20 minutes early. Maye seemed ok.”
The important part is that Maye is out of harm’s way, and he’ll have a bit over a month to get back to full strength after OTAs and minicamp. There’s absolutely no reason to risk further injury with the franchise quarterback, or any other player for that matter.
The Patriots will face a first-place schedule after dealing with a somewhat easier road to the playoffs last season, and they’ll be under a ton of pressure to prove that last year’s success wasn’t a fluke. And after finishing second in MVP voting, Maye should be extremely motivated to take his game to the next level in Year 3.
