Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper became the latest All-Star to throw his hat in the ring on Thursday, announcing that he would take part in Monday’s Home Run Derby. Harper’s participation was welcomed news to Phillies fans, who were hoping “the Showman” wouldn’t deprive his hometown fans of seeing him try to win his second Home Run Derby.
However, Harper may not be the only Phillies player taking part in the Derby, as interim manager Don Mattingly seemed to let slip that his teammate Kyle Schwarber would also likely be participating.
Don Mattingly reveals that Kyle Schwarber will be in the Home Run Derby
Winning last year’s Home Run Derby for the National League by defeating the American League in the first-ever “swing-off,” Schwarber’s participation in this year’s Derby was in question due to a back issue. Despite the concern, it appears Schwarber will indeed take part.
