Disney+ announced a new thriller K-drama series this week, and Nam Joo-hyuk has joined its cast. The series is titled Code and follows the story of a fictional app that can make people’s wishes come true, but at a cost.
The casting for the upcoming series includes Nam Joo-hyuk, Lee Yi-dam, Kim Eui-sung, and Park Hoon.
Joo-hyuk portrays a sleazy lawyer named Yun Tae-ju in the series, who can go to any lengths to become a partner at a top law firm. After Tae-ju gets a mysterious invitation to join Code, he’s drawn in by his desire to rise within the ranks at his workplace.
Meanwhile, Yi-dam will play the character of Park Ji-dam in the series. Ji-dam is a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office and pursues Tae-ju throughout the series, determined to uncover his link to Code and the truth behind the suspicious app. The two are expected to share a unique chemistry in the show as they stay at odds, constantly engaging in psychological sparring.
The third lead in the show is Eui-sung, who plays Jo Cheol-ho – an accidental accomplice of Tae-ju who cooperates with the lawyer for his own hidden motivations.
To complete the main cast, Park Hoon joins the show as detective Im Chang-jae – a hardened investigator who has a brother-like relationship with Tae-ju and helps him in his pursuit of Code.
According to a Disney+ announcement, Code is expected to have 12 episodes and will premiere on the streaming platform in 2027. Director Yoo Su-min will take over the fast-developing action of the upcoming thriller.
Nam Joo-hyuk addressed the mixed reactions he received for The East Palace
The announcement of Code’s premiere comes less than a week after Nam Joo-hyuk-starrer The East Palace premiered on Netflix. Speaking about the fantasy thriller series in an interview earlier this week, Joo-hyuk addressed the mixed reactions his acting skills had attracted. He said:
“I’m aware that opinions are divided. In that regard, nothing has changed for me — it’s the same now as it was before. I’m grateful for the positive feedback, and I also appreciate the criticisms and disappointments. They always make me think about how I can further improve.”
The actor also remarked that a wide range of opinions were inevitable as more people watched his performance, and that he was grateful for all of them.
When asked about the possibility of a season 2, Joo-hyuk claimed that while Netflix didn’t reveal any information regarding it, the actor believes they might have a second season in mind.
For the unversed, The East Palace is the first project Nam Joo-hyuk signed following his military discharge in 2024. All eight episodes of the series premiered on Netflix on July 17.
